[edit] About Me

Hi there, I’m Adam. Computers take up most of my time when I’m not working; building, fixing, gaming & “modding” are common daily, there is nothing like coming home after a 10-hour shift to find that the router has decided it doesn’t want to connect to the internet and spending countless hours trying to fix the problem then finally going to bed at 4 in the morning when you have work at 8.

I’m quite enjoying the open source movement that seems to be gaining momentum day by day, I use Firefox to browse the Internet, and am similarly impressed with other open source solutions such as audacity and celestia. Occasionally dabbling in Ubuntu in my spare time, it's impressive that a community project is so focused; maybe one day it will be my primary operating system, but until some drivers are made and open document types are more widely adopted Windows Vista Ultimate x64 is the operating system of my choice.

Vista has been a learning experience for me, switching from a dodgy copy of Windows XP home and buying the full £300 ultimate version was a step I took against piracy and internet crime. When I first installed it, yes it ate my performance and I did upgrade, and a lot of drivers where either buggy or simply not available, but I’m impressed at this current moment in time because everything is running smoothly with 64-bit allowing me to increase the overall system performance.

Many label Vista as XP with extra eye candy, as far as I’m concerned that is just naive. I do recall people saying similar things about 98se and XP; although there was a switch to windows NT in that process, vista's jump is still as big with major security upgrades and re-writes, and features such as the Windows Sidebar bar have a certain quality feel to them unlike free solutions such as Google desktop.

On a less geeky note; I’m currently on a gap year after finishing college with A Levels in Computing, ICT and Psychology. A trip to America is planned early next year
