The Town of Acton California is known as a small, quiet community located in the rugged Sierra Pelona mountains approximately 20 miles north of the San Fernando Valley (50 Miles north of downtown Los Angeles, off the Highway 14). The town has a rural western theme which can be seen in its homes, commercial buildings, and historical buildings (some of which date back to the late 1800's).

Many of the homes in Acton are located in the mountains and have spectacular views of the valley floor below. The valley floor (approximately 12 miles wide) consists of primarily custom homes, ranch style homes with equestrian facilities, schools, and shopping centers.

Brief History

Acton began in the late 1860s as a mining town and first started to develop into a ranching/farming community around the late 1880s. Gold, copper, and titanium ore were mined in Acton's mountain side mines until the early 1900s. To date many of the old mines can still be seen on the surrounding hillsides. Two well known gold mines were located in Acton, the Red Rover mine (a familiar exit off Highway 14) and the Governors mine (located off Crown Valley Rd. & Highway 14). ACTON CALIFORNIA

Acton's first hotel, and its first saloon the 49er (Sutters Mill) were established in 1889. The 49er saloon is still open for business today and is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Crown Valley Rd. If you are intersted in visiting this historic saloon, stop by for dinner or a cold drink. You can even tie off your horse on a side rail while you eat. Also located in the same shopping center is a country market, real estate office, barber shop, a bank(Trivia - the bank was seen in the Clint Eastwood movie "Works"), and several other businesses.
