[edit] Moved out
I've moved them onto a seperate page, and brought in a hints page. I agree that they are not really encyclopedia material, but it's good to have them somewhere where they can be added to.
[edit] ASPX
- Combining the two, you've got to be kidding?
- I dont like the idea of combining the to articles as they are not the same thing, as aspx uses the .net framework.
- Plus aspx uses different languages and syntax than regular asp. Seems like a bad idea to merge them. Unless anyone objects I'm going to remove the merge tag. --Pboyd04 22:12, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- I think ASPX should be merged with [[ASP.NET]]. - Sikon 10:00, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, it should rather be merged with ASP.NET. ASP doesn't have a separate page for the "file format" either. - Lumpio- 00:14, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Definitely, put it with ASP.NET. Historically, ASP is very notable by itself and deserves its own page. --Allisondata 01:50, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Internet annoyances of .asp
Move Boston Forward forums web link didn't work !
when submitting forum sign up information at
http://www.cityofboston.gov/mayor/mayor_roundtable_form.asp
Here's the error that appeared...
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 's'.
/mayor/mayor_roundtable_form.asp, line 95
Added comment: Dude! That's not an ASP problem. That's a syntax error by the people who wrote that page; you can't say that is some inherant fault with ASP.
[edit] Not Enough Info
This page has very little information on it.
- Yes, I was surprised at that. (It's more than most encyclopedias have on the topic, of course.) Feel free to help expand it, though. — Matt Crypto 17:07, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

- It would be great if someone with some expertise would have another look at this. I don't know much about the subject (which is why I looked for it here) and found it impenetrable because of the jargon. Maybe it could have an introductory passage for know-nothings like me, and then the more technical stuff for those who want to know more detail. I might put a link to this page on the Computing Wikiproject page, unless anyone thinks that's a bad idea. HilJackson 14:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

- Maybe the 'jargon' statement is a bit unfair, now I take a second look. It's just that I'm annoyed because I have to look up every wikilink because I don't know what anything is! I probably shouldn't take out my ignorance on the computer scientists! HilJackson 14:57, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I didn't understand whether ASP or ASP.net could run on a non-windows server. I've been to two different web hosts where one says they are going to offer ASP support while the other host says ASP is impossible to have on non-windows servers. I would like someone to clear this up and put it in the article. Bob Plano 02:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- ASP support comes installed only on IIS(Windows) servers. This doesn't mean that it will not run on others, but it does require that you install specialized software such as Sun Java System Active Server Pages (for linux): http://www.sun.com/software/chilisoft/ (for example) Bryantn 20:51, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Merge
ASP master pages should be merged into this article as it doesn't merit an article of it's own -- timdew (Talk) 21:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Approve. Oicumayberight 19:09, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Comment Perhaps it would make a bit more sense to merge it with the ASP.NET page?
Just a bit confused, so far all i get is that the ASP helps you write websites. Any simplification would be useful.
P.S. I'm confused enough with this bit, e.g. asking for help. Would any one be able to tell me or direct me to a site where ASP is explained as something simpler than here and more computerised than an african snake —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.49.165.14 (talk) 06:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Can you script without permission?
I don't understand, does this mean that people can obtain this program and vandalise any website using it?
82.14.87.191 14:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- No, the ASP scripts are files on the server which are executed by the server; not on your computer, the client, where your browser is. So to change a server script you would have to have write permissions on the server. sorry I tried to get this comment in the part above but it wouldn't work.122.49.165.14 (talk) 06:44, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Ruddo Smith, 66.64.214.130 18:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Spam
I think some of the external links look suspiciously unencyclopeadic and more like self promotion(3.14 etc 18:32, 27 October 2007 (UTC))
[edit] the link webmasters.am
82.198.10.??? Why should we add your website to our page? The website link doesn't add value to the article and is in violation of WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided number 11. Is there any good reason we should allow you this site? R00m c (talk) 15:41, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Some how, in that little time, I got logged off. I was the edit of 209.209.140.21. Also, I know I am in violation of 3R by 2 hours. But I won't be at a computer for another 8 or so hours, so hopefully the Wikipedia community can forgive me.R00m c (talk) 15:58, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your work on this. I've yanked a lot of the WebMasters.am stuff from various pages this week. Christopher G Lewis (talk) 21:02, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Link Spam
In an attempt to combat link spam, I've added the substituted template {{subst:NoMoreLinks}} to the external links section as per Wikipedia:Spam#Tagging_articles_prone_to_spam Christopher G Lewis (talk) 21:00, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Was name deliberate or inadvertent?
Did microsoft know that an asp is a poisonous snake or just didn't care? 199.125.109.43 (talk) 19:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] ASP vs ASP.NET
I believe we need to separate the two technologies. There is an ASP.NET entry, so all references to that should be there. I'll make some clean up entries starting 2/28/2008 Christopher G Lewis (talk) 20:04, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
