Why would you revert my edits? vDub (talk) 04:43, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

A mistake on my part: I thought it was for the general April 1 article. Acroterion (talk) 11:37, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Chocolate Math

Why did you delete Chocolate Math? It was a valuable Mathamatical resource for those wishing to devise their own mathamatical problems. It also displayed the value of working backwards when creating a difficult problem. --Fetch that (talk) 01:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

It was not, however, an encyclopedia article: Wikipedia is not a how-to guide or a textbook. Please refer to WP:NOT. Acroterion (talk) 01:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
c'mon, you can't be serious, I used that method of mathamatics for a problem i was devising for one of my new co-workers. I felt it would be great if others could have the same resource.

It's a bit of fun and educational, what more could Wikipedia ask for? :)--Fetch that (talk) 01:44, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

As I said, it's not something that is appropriate for an encyclopedia: we don't host math problems. Again, please read WP:NOT. Acroterion (talk) 01:47, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Global Warming

I've deleted my "personal opinion" which was, as a matter of fact a fact in itself in that we are all contributing to global warming in some way. HAPPY NOW? Now all that is in the article is boring old facts, and now i can't secretly destroy wikipedia with 2 lines of a bit of an opinion/fact.--Fetch that 02:28, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

The entire article is an essay, and therefore inappropriate. Please, please, read WP:NOT and you'll understand what we're saying. Acroterion (talk)<--Fetch that (talk) 02:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)/sub> 02:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
So even facts that are derived from a reliable source count as personal essays?
I've read WP:NOT and i can see what you're saying, i'm simply asking that if i listed a page of facts with no other writing watsoever, no personal input, would this still count as a personal essay?--Fetch that (talk) 02:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
If you're standing on a WP:SOAPBOX, and it reads as an essay, then yes. We already have an article on Global warming. As I mentioned above, the reservoir article's just fine, barring a few sources and some cleanup. Just the facts, no attempt at analysis or imposition of a particular point of view. For more of our extensive collection of policies, see WP:NPOV. Acroterion (talk) 02:45, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

You shouldn't have deleted andre ball, there was absolutly nothing wrong with the term. It was completly understandable, and not harmful to any person. I think you should reinstate it. I know it is not a term that many people have heard before, but I know people that have heard of it and there new ideas and words created all of the time. I believe it was unjustly deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adamwads (talkcontribs) 05:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Then you will have no difficulty providing two or three references to the term in independent media, preferably of national standing. Please read WP:NOTABILITY. Wikipedia does not exist to create notability for obscure terms: it documents notability that already exists. Please do not introduce neologisms or things you've made up: see WP:MADEUP. There appear to be a lot of Donald Douglases: this one got redirected, which isn't perhaps right. Maybe you'd like to do a disambig page? Regards, Acroterion (talk) 23:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Why is clubcivic getting called spam? It's not, it's only the most popular Honda Enthusiast website on the web. Highly worthy of wikipedia.

Hello, I was rewriting this when Jmlk deleted. I've asked the creator to stop. Please look at my rewritten version at User:Dlohcierekim/GMILF. Delete at will, or let me know if it passes muster. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 03:03, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rki

Could you please tell me why you keep or don't want my info on the wiki page? even after placing a "holdon" tag, it still got deleted. rki —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rootcontest (talkcontribs) 19:05, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I now have a signature? may I have the page? rki 19:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

It is not a matter of "don't want my info": it's a matter of meeting our requirements for notability of people and subject matter. There is no indication that you are personally notable in the article: if, however, you can provide multiple examples of third-party coverage in independent media, that would establish notability in your own right (as opposed to the website, which is already included and may be the best place for a mention of you as the founder). Please also read WP:COI for information on conflict of interest - writing about yourself is strongly discouraged. Acroterion (talk) 23:08, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Risko

I noticed you put a Speedy Delete G1 notice on the author's talk page about Risko. I noticed the template wasn't up on the article. I googled the term and found no conducive data. I'm assuming you just forgot so I'm going to go ahead and put it on the article and if you had something else planned please let me know. Chasecarter (talk) 02:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Untrue that it's patent nonsense.

How does someone from West Virgina know anything about English pub-slang? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ping33 (talk • contribs) 11:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a place for pub-slang, or things made up in a pub one day. And there are ways to visit England and even other countries, even if you do have to go to Virginia to catch the flight. Acroterion (talk) 11:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanker
That's slang.
as is this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punter
Where is the line drawn?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostriding <- probably not the widest known term in the world... what's the threshold here?
I didn't even create the article, was just editing it as it was, admittedly lacking.
The first two are widely known, even to those of us in deepest Dogpatch. The last is extensively referenced. If someone can provide references for Beefshift, great. Two Google hits, neither relevant. I call Bullshift. Acroterion (talk) 11:46, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Connaling

Why was the Connaling page deleted? You cited it as an attack page but there was no subject under attack. The page was merely an explanation of an act and the increasingly popular term used to describe an act deemed inappropriate by society, such as rape or murder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.9.135.233 (talk) 11:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

It seems popular and funny in some circles to attach the name of someone one wishes to tease to a sexual act. It is not, however, suitable for publication in an encyclopedia, and it is frequently interpreted as an attack. Please stop. Acroterion (talk) 12:02, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Block of 71.42.96.142

Hi! Thanks for the assist there. I was also wondering, is there a way to check to see if an IP range belongs to a school? I think (looking at the type of vandal edits that were made) that this particular IP is a school account. Thanks for your help! Tnxman307 (talk) 15:11, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I do a WHOIS before blocking so I don't inadvertently block the US Senate or Qatar or something. There's a link at the bottom of the IP contribution page - this one came back to RoadRunner, a generic IP. That's not to say it's not a school - it's just not directly allocated. Acroterion (talk) 15:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks again! Tnxman307 (talk) 15:23, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

space sprogs

We would like to add some of the TV pilot visuals so that the kids can see them when they look up the sprogs, but I cannot work out how to add images. They are own own TV images that we own from the TV pilot. Please advise how to add pictures. Thanks so much x --Doedimelvin (talk) 01:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Since you own the copyright, you should be able to release them under GFDL. Please note that once, released, you lose your right to control the use: the only requirement for someone using the image is that they correctly attribute the source. If control of use is important to you, you might not want to post the images. As far as actually posting the images, you will see a link to "upload file" on the left side of the page. Follow the instructions, and upload to Commons by preference so it's available to all Wikimedia projects. Make sure you fill out the licensing information (and understand it), and you will almost certainly have to prove your ownership of the content via WP:OTRS. Acroterion (talk) 01:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Global Account

Excuse me I hope you don't mind me asking but on your user page it says that you have a global account and when I read the page at mediawiki it only talked about sysops creating these and on your userpage you appear to just be an administrator. I was wondering if you are a sysop somewhere else or if they have opened up this ability to other user types. If you don't mind please respond on my userpage. Rearete (talk) 03:34, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

On most Wikimedia projects the terms sysop and administrator are used interchangeably, so I'm both. In real-life terms the system operators for the actual Wikimedia systems are the developers. Hope this clears things up. Acroterion (talk) 03:40, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Protocals of the elders of zion

I've been POVing this page for a good week or so now, and I seem to be getting into trouble for it. I've issued my concerns, but I'm not the best at getting my point accross, as english is my second language. (Which is why I haven't corrected the article myself) If this is a true issue worth blocking me over, perhaps you could drop the ruling decision in. Would you kindly peek at the article in question, perhaps you will see what I'm seeing. If not, I'd be happy to cease tagging the pov. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.93.6.213 (talk) 18:04, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Your comment confirms what I was thinking, however I don't think just tagging is the best way to make your point. You seem to be able to describe your concerns reasonably well - I think I will open a request for comment, in which you are encouraged to participate. I will not block you, but please stop placing the POV tag. It's always better to simply make a case on the talk page: POV tagging is for more significant issues. If I understand correctly, you have more of an issue with wording and perhaps undue weight. Acroterion (talk) 18:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Well he's Tagged it again. But has given no further indication of why on the Talk page. I think you have enough to Block him - at least for some time outside of infinity. --Ludvikus (talk) 18:36, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to remove the tag and open an RfC. I personally feel that it is abundantly clear that the Protocols are a hoax/forgery/lie, and that this could be stated more succinctly. This appears to be the taggers' point as well, although he's not doing a good job of explaining it. I do not see this as appropriately blockable unless it continues during or after the RfC. Acroterion (talk) 18:51, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank'ee

Thanks for your help, Acro. I'm back on, so I can return to damage assessment. For the record, these guys are now mad at me because I pointed out that I would delete their target revision to Ocean sunfish once it got off FA. -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:12, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Glad to help, in between cleaning the kitchen. I assume you have a strategy for this that doesn't involve semi-ing your talkpage? Acroterion (talk) 02:14, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
All the IP's used are one-offs and all of them are reverting to specific revisions; as soon as they stop for the day I'll delete those revisions. -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:35, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I assume this is being organized via 4chan? Are abuse reports in the future for these IP's? Acroterion (talk) 02:39, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
For many of them an abuse report would be rejected here, and even if accepted, we would also need to contact police as ISPs have a poor track record of reining in rambunctious users. And, yes, 4chan is behind it (most likely on his command; see the revision history for Ocean sunfish). -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:41, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, short of a Class B felony, ISP's can't be bothered. Acroterion (talk) 02:44, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. It took a letter to a Better Business Bureau to rein in Mmbabies; what would it take to shut down Anonymous, aside from the Internet suddenly going out? -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:47, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Har! I haven't watched South Park in ages. With the current response time from the servers, they'd be lucky to get logged on in 40 seconds. Still, why not just semi-protect and save the hassle? Acroterion (talk) 02:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Because if I do, experience has taught me they'll harass someone else. -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:56, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

shirley temply disease

Acroterion,

Could you please tell me why my article on Shirley Temple disease was taken down? It is true that I had not set out the references in the standard format, but I was just getting around to doing that. I wanted to see what the first draft looked like as a work in progress: this is a valid (or at least understandable) part of the writing process surely?

Because it appeared to be a well-written hoax. No Google hits.

"A satisfactory resolution of the condition depends on the patient locating a social network - medical practitioner and friends - who recognises the validity of the condition, offer comfort and solace, and are prepared to hold the patient while she sleeps standing up. Bushwalks in mountainous areas have also been found to be effective in inducing a tiredness conducive to sleep. Typically the sufferer resists treatment by repeatedly putting off the bushwalk in order to go to her hairdresser.":

Really? Bushwalking as a cure for a psycho-epilatory disorder? Acroterion (talk) 14:27, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

You haven't gone through the agony of coercing a sufferer to well-being! I have experienced this condition, or one with very similar symptoms, first-hand, and would very much like to see this information posted to ensure the speedy recovery of other sufferers. I'm not sure about the "medical" side of the disorder, but some of the suggestions for easing/curing the disorder are very helpful!

Thank you in advance, Michael Kirkwood —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.184.8.200 (talk) 15:28, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

We don't publish original research or first-hand accounts. I would advise a nice bushwalk instead of staying indoors in front of a computer. Acroterion (talk) 15:30, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Crikey

I am trying to add an entry to define something I invented. Is that allowed. Eg is this scrabble or is it a place to evolve a definition. If not, can I add what the dreaded srottlez is under who and what I do: film and media?

Thanks!

Thanks for de-jerk-ifying my userpage...I must say, I'm saddened by the new generation's lack of creativity in their insults. I mean, if you're going to use a four-letter word, you could at least spruce up the sentence structure--throw in a few adverbs, a dependent clause, maybe a reference to obscure vegetable products...:::sigh::: Anyhow, thanks for your vigilance!Gladys J Cortez 03:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I think there's a missing end tag somewhere...

...because my message keeps showing up as part of Allahmuslim's barnstar. Sorry 'bout that! Gladys J Cortez 02:54, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Problem solved by getting rid of the troll's barnstar - he apparently thought they were quite the thing. It appears that few can live up to the standards of creativity you set (and exemplify). Root vegetables are in my opinion the most humo(u)rous vegetables, for what it's worth. Acroterion (talk) 03:12, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I wholeheartedly agree--how can you NOT laugh at a parsnip??Gladys J Cortez 03:29, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Request help deleting previous entries

When you have time, I would appreciate your assistance deleting all but my most current entry on the talk page for Ken Alibek http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ken_Alibek. After I read my entries, I determined I could use even more neutral language than I had previously. Thanks very much for your help. Next Generation (talk) 06:04, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Acroterion (talk) 21:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi

Listen, I need to ask you something. Recently, an article I nominated for deletion was kept per the snowball clause. Yet, a previous article similar to this (Video games that have been considered the greatest ever) was deleted almost a year ago. Does that mean, if this article can be kept, then if that article was allowed to be written again, it could be kept? Valtoras (talk) 23:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Umm, hard to tell. Negative reception seems to me to be easier to document (witness the press about the latest GTA). "Best ever" is way more subjective, and given the likely sourcing, mostly meaningless. You might want to check the link you gave me - it doesn't appear to link to a deleted article. Regards, Acroterion (talk) 23:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Fixed. Does my nom look like a violation of WP:POINT? Valtoras (talk) 23:14, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
No, not to me. When I get a moment I'll read both AfD's through: no time right now. Acroterion (talk) 23:41, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
It appears from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Video games notable for negative reception (2nd nomination) that the commenters understood your reasoning, and were initially inclined to agree, but moved to keep after actually reading the article. Nobody thought you were being point-y, that I see, or thought it was an improper nom. In contrast, Video games that have been considered the greatest ever seems to me to have been a list of lists. Disasters tend to be inherently easier to document than successes. A well-written "notable for positive reception" article might well succeed if it's formulated along the same lines as its antithesis, and you should recruit those who commented if you want to try for feedback. Not me, though - my knowledge on the subject is, well, antique. Zork, anyone? I anxiously await the next release of Duke Nukem - I hear it'll hit the stores any day now! Acroterion (talk) 01:11, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Of course, it's been in the making for 11 years, any day now it should be out! :D The only reason I asked is that, well, it's hard to explain why - nobody said anything of WP:POINT, but I nontheless feared that bringing something to AfD with the argument that "if that article was deleted, then this one should be as well" might strike people as such. In any case, thank you for your advice - it's much appreciated. Valtoras (talk) 04:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Damian805

This is'nt really important, but why do you think that Damain805 is unaware of his block? Imperial Star Destroyer (talk) 00:26, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

He's aware he's blocked, but his promise to return will be hampered by autoblock, which blocks any IP he uses, and hence any sockpuppet accounts. There are ways around it, and it will eventually wear off, but he'll find it hard to carry out his threat, as he's already fallen into it once. Acroterion (talk) 00:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Excellent. Imperial Star Destroyer (talk) 00:56, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I've been doing less AV patrol and more work with new pages recently, and I should be making content, but there's still plenty of vandalism happening on my watchlist. Acroterion (talk) 14:36, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Socks

The Special Barnstar
For being the great help you have been over the past few days, I hereby award you this barnstar. AlexiusHoratius (talk) 15:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your work over the past few days; I really appreciate it. I don't have much experience dealing with sockpuppets other than getting obvious ones blocked at AIV, so your efforts with the RFCU were a big help to me. As to the resulting blocks in the matter, they're fine by me. The MO has become clear enough by this point, so further misbehavior should probably be easy to spot. AlexiusHoratius (talk) 15:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I'm happy to help out - I'd been watching AoJ & Co. for a while, as it was clear that they were up to no good. I have little hope that they will behave - AoJ triggered an autoblock the same minute he was blocked, as well as his other previously unblocked sockpuppet. Acroterion (talk) 17:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Interview

I am trying to find a wikipedia administrator who would readily do an interview for a research project I am conducting from the perspective of a wikipedia insider. If you'd like to do this, please email me at goat77 (AT) gmail.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Goat77 (talkcontribs) 18:06, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I'd hardly describe someone who's been active for fewer than two years and an admin for barely 6 months an "insider". There are many others who've been around longer than I with more participation in policy, and they aren't all admins. Acroterion (talk) 20:13, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Tiara Jamison (Lil' Tweexy)

Did you really mean to redirect that page to Bayanaul ? Toddst1 (talk) 22:00, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

No - just undoing the horrible pagemove mess she created. She's going to get warned but good. Acroterion (talk) 22:02, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
I see. You were in the middle of moving it back. Cool. Toddst1 (talk) 22:03, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
My page-moving skillz over redirects leave a great deal to be desired. Acroterion (talk) 22:05, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
It would have been cleaner if I'd realized she'd made the article on top of a moved article before I deleted it. Acroterion (talk) 22:09, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
