Across the Atlantic Ocean is the twenty-eighth episode[1] of Mobile Suit Gundam.
[edit] Plot summary
Amuro and Sayla manage to reduce their time in docking the Gundam and the G-Fighter to fifteen seconds. Somewhere in the Atlantic, Char’s Mad Angler sinks several Federation Navy battleships. Char wonders how Boone will get info from the spy.
Inside White Base, Miharu sneaks into Bright’s quarters looking for new information. Kai, however finds her. Miharu says she ran away to be with him but Kai does not believe that. Kai instead takes her to his quarters. Amuro sees them and Kai asks Amuro not to tell anyone until they arrive to South America —Kai gives this info indirectly to Miharu— and Amuro agrees. Kai wants her to stay in his room, hoping the ship is not attacked before reaching its destination. He says that's the only thing he'll tell her.
A fishing plane with Boone as its pilot sends out a distress signal and lands on White Base. Once inside the ship Boone uses the bathroom to call Miharu. She tells him the ship’s destination is South America.
When Kai sees her talking to her watch he realizes the civilians on the plane are spies. As the plane is taking off he yells to Bright that they’re from Zeon. Bright asks him to produce the evidence but Kai feels he can’t expose Miharu. Boone returns to the sub and reports to Char. Boone says that the ship is not heading towards the African front but South America instead. Char says that’s fine since he’s been observing the African front. Boone asks Char to use the mobile armor Grabro to exact revenge for all his men who’ve been killed by the Gundam. Char grants him permission and the Grabro is launched along with two Z’Goks.
White Base detects the enemy and fires missiles at them. Miharu sees Kika, Katz, and Lentz and is shocked that there are children in the ship at all. Amuro and Sayla plan to take off in the G-Armor and then separate. Boone fires missiles at White Base.
Kai heads for battle but Miharu wants to help. He says she’s not even trained. She says she doesn’t want to just stand around. Amuro and Sayla take off, followed by Hayato who’s in the Core Fighter; the dock explodes shortly after. He fires missiles at a Z’Gok but misses.
After the Gundam separates from the G-Fighter, Amuro goes into the water and fights the Grabro. He fires the beam rifle but its power is cut by half underwater. Sayla destroys one of the Z’Goks but Boone fires missiles at her and damages the G-Fighter.
The deck is out of commission, and Bright orders Kai to use the Gunperry to destroy the second Z’Gok. An ensuing shockwave from an explosion injures the kids and Miharu can’t stand it that the kids are in danger while her siblings are safe. Kai reluctantly lets her go with him as a bombardier since Job John is manning one of the cannons. Amuro destroys on of the Grabro’s two pincer arms, but the other one grabs his leg. Miharu fires two missiles at the Z’Gok but misses. The Z’Gok returns fire and damages the Gunperry. The damage jams the ships firing system so Miharu goes down to fire them manually. She is successful but the force of the missile is so strong that she’s blown out of the Gunperry. The Z’Gok takes a direct hit and is destroyed. An unknowing Kai cheers for Miharu.
Boone’s Grabro breaks the Gundam’s right leg in half. But this frees Amuro and proceeds to pierce the Grabro’s cockpit with his beam saber.
Kai is crying over Miharu’s death while no one knew she was even on the ship. Amuro tells Bright that she was a stowaway and that he didn’t have time to report her because they were attacked right after seeing her. Kai cries out asking why Miharu had to die.
