Acoustic Lounge on KSFS
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Acoustic Lounge on KSFS is a weekly radio show and podcast based in San Francisco, California. The show was first broadcast live on September 21st, 2006. During the show's first seven months, it was strictly a weekly two-hour program that featured both up and coming acoustic singer-songwriters and similar major label recording artists. In February 2007, the show interviewed Universal Republic recording artist Matt Wertz for it's first online podcast. The podcast features sit down interviews with artists and their music. Each podcast also displays live music from the artist's current tour and will often feature live recordings of their San Francisco performance. During the podcast's first week of release it was advertised on the front page of the iTunes Podcast store. The podcast has peaked at number 12 in the music podcast top 100. After it's initial success, the show has built a strong, steady following with subscribers and listeners in all 50 U.S. States and over 40 countries worldwide.
Since the first Artist Spotlight podcast in March 2007, the Acoustic Lounge has adopted two other forms of podcasts into it's regular rotation. The Artists To Watch podcast features three to four artists who are on the verge of releasing a new record or are preparing to tour nationally in the United States. Interviews are conducted over the phone, and two to four songs from each artist are featured. The Just Music podcast provides what it's title suggests; just music. Ten songs by ten musicians are featured without any interviews. Songs included in Just Music often focus on new tracks from well known artists in the United States as well as hits from lesser known or foreign artists.
As of June 2008, the live radio show is on hiatus. 88.1 KSFS, the radio station of San Francisco State University, hosts the show but does not broadcast live programming during the Summer. The podcast provides new episodes frequently and is hosted via Podbean.com. The podcast can be subscribed to, free of cost, by using the iTunes online store. Both the radio show and podcast are hosted by SFSU alum, Andy Tupman. Born in Leicestershire, England, Tupman grew up in the Greater Manchester area before moving to Los Angeles, California in 1994. His past work includes stints with radio icons Charlie Tuna and Don Bleu on their Morning Shows for Clear Channel in Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively.
