Talk:Achy Obejas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't understand why this page is here. I also don't understand why it's the only faculty member linked to off of the University of Chicago Wiki page.
Maybe Achy is a dignified person and I don't know it... but it really just seems like she is trying to push her own status via a Wiki page and the UC link.
- you don't think authors are notable people?
-
- i think that's a particularly harsh question to ask. have i questioned any author besides this one? I don't question Walter Miller Jr.'s page, even though you could say he's written only one novel. the question is... where do you think the line should be drawn as far as "importance" goes in literature? Should Wikipedia have a page for every author that has ever written? For every graduate student who has published a dissertation?
-
-
- harsh question, perhaps, but if you don't think an author who has worked at two prestigious institutions and written a few well received books isn't notable, than who is? where should the line be drawn? i don't know, but that really is a different discussion.

I would just really like to know how to pronounce her name. I have seen her byline in the Chicago Tribune.
I would like to say that I have read all of Achy's books, met her on several occasions have read some of her columns. Isn't the purpose of Wikipedia to make information available about as much as possible to as many as possible? Obejas's entry is more than valid!
