[edit] Sam?

What does "Sam." mean? For example, "Acharya Tulsi was born in Sam. 1971 in Ladnun...".

I believe this is an abbreviation for samvat which is a Hindu calendar. I'm not familiar with the abbreviation though. As soon as I can translate the years I will change it to standard format. --Wgfinley 04:33, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright Violations

This article was cut and paste from a few different places:

An article on Jain monks from Colorado State University

An email from a mailing list from Colorado State University

A Jain website

Now, I believe these to be copyright violations as we don't have confirmation of their licensing status. Regardless of the licensing status issues, all of the text in question was with no regard for NPOV and read more as a tribute than an article. Another part had the flowery phrases common in obituaries.

I believe the subject to be notable and a much better article could be done, but the parts that are plain unacceptable needed to be removed.

If the person contributing actually is the author, I encourage you to discuss changes on this talk page before posting more and get some assistance in writing in a NPOV style as well as consult our style guide and our guide to writing better articles. Best of luck. --Wgfinley 04:47, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Acharya Tulsi

The head of the Jain sect called is called an Acharya.

Acharya Tulsi was the head of a Jain sect called "TERAPANTH" meaning "Your Path" referring to God that the way we follow is His Path.

He was a great saint who has travelled more 1,00,000 Km "on foot" to travel across the Indian Subcontinent. He spread the message of Non violence, Peace and brotherhood.

HIS Quotes: " A man is first a human and after that a hindu, jain, sikh, muslim, christian or any other religion." (Insaan pehle insaan, phir Hindu Ya Musalman.)

"First self-restraint then come discipline."

He work in the field of National integration, Universal brother hood, non-violence and social cause has influenced the greatest of men during his life time (Dr.Radha-krishnan - The President of India 1962, Sri.Jawaharlal Nehru - The First Prime minister of India,....(the list is quite long) from Prime-ministers, presidents, politicians to the common man)).

He has left a legacy in the form of his successor "Acharya Mahapragya."

His major contributions to the society is in the form of "Anuvrat" (Anu means small and Vrat means vows), throught he help of these small vows he has made people understand the importance of a corruption-free, pure and honest life, and to follow them in their daily life.

He has not worked for the cause of Jainism alone but for Humanity. His personality cannot be bound in words. He was not a person he was an institution in himself.

I bow and pay heartful homage to the great saint.
