Achadas da Cruz

Achadas da Cruz is a parish in the district of Porto Moniz in the Madeira Islands. The population in 2001 is 220, its density is 22/km² and the area is 10 km². It is located W of Porto Moniz. Achadas da Cruz are the smallest parish in population and area and is one of the two highest parishes in Porto Moniz. The main industry is agriculture. It is connected with a road linking Porto Moniz and Funchal via Calheta. The Atlantic Ocean is to the north. There are no beaches around Achada da Cruz. Forests cover much of the parish except for around Achadas da Cruz and the within the Atlantic where most of the land are arable and the other are rocky. The escarpment which is about 15 km long and reaches Ponta do Pargo is founded in the west. A small stream lies to the southwest and another to the northeast forming a parish boundary with Porto Moniz. The mountains are to the southeast and around the parish. The settlement of Santa Maria Madalena lies to the northeast. A settlement is to the west. Two remote roads accesses to the mountaintop located in the southeast.
