Metronet has to look after 9 of the LU lines, including the Waterloo and City, and the busy Circle Line. It has five shareholders - Atkins, Balfour Beatty, Bombardier, EDF Energy, and Thames Water.

Metronet went into administration on the 18th July, and published a Q&A about its administration, viewable at http://www.metronetrail.com/webfiles/admin/admin_faq.pdf (Note: This Q&A sheet is for staff, so some questions, such as 'Should I Come To Work, are irrelevant to you, the reader)

The following paragraph from the Q&A just about sums things up about whats happening now.

1. Has Metronet ceased to operate?

No. The Administrators’ remit is to enable Metronet’s management to continue to operate with safety and business as usual being the principal objectives. Metronet will continue to maintain and renew London Underground Limited’ trains, stations and infrastructure.

Tfl have also issued a statement, viewable at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/5501.aspx

Another Q&A, this time by TfL, is viewable at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/modesoftransport/londonunderground/management/5500.aspx
