Wikipedia:Abuse reports/86.1xx.x.x range

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These are all BTbroadband IPs and used by the long-term vandal User:Tile join (See long-term abuse description). These IPs are from the recent vandalism of Talk:Evolution/draft article, but more IPs can be found at Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Tile join. Could we contact the provider to sort this out? • Sounds like a good idea - the vandal has been around since December 2006, using various ISPs and libraries. I don't think the current strategy of blocking IP's and ranges for 6 months or a year will work, when the vandal's next IP will be any of around 500,000 possibilities (not an exact number - that is just a guess). The blocks are more likely have the effect of discouraging new users and increasing the requests at Wikipedia:Request an account or whatever the process is now, as BT is probably the largest internet provider in the UK, certainly one of the largest. --Snigbrook (talk) 01:45, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Also it looks like the vandal is using four different ISPs - BT, Tiscali, BSkyB, and Onetel. It looks like when the vandal started, multiple ISPs were used - Tiscali, BT, and probably Energis. --Snigbrook (talk) 15:13, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
