Discussion

For about the last year, this editor has been a general nuisance on Wikipedia. While his modus operandi is very simply to remove from Czech Republic the short name of the country (he has revert warred over this on 34 out of 57 IP addresses), his vandalism is by no means confined there (making protection of that page inadequate, not to mention it would need to be perennial). He often edits apparently random Czech-related pages, and sometimes constructively (his constructive edits seem confined to mere typo fixing and minor rewording). Unfortunately, many of his edits to other articles are questionable or outright vandalism, and reverted as such. His typical response to seeing his edits reverted is to immediately revert war while using hostile and sometimes outright insulting edit summaries (so say some who have translated his edit summaries from Czech). He appears to have no interest in actually collaberating on the project, and often attacks those who revert him on their user and user talk pages (or sometimes his own). One of the best examples of his lack of desire to cooperate might be found here. In the course of his disruption, he has accumulated no less than 42 blocks, as well as one range block. The IP range subject to this report appears to be the unfortunately large 71.99.0.0/16 range. (Additionally, two IPs are outside this range). These IPs all resolve to Verizon, Virginia. The WHOIS report identifies the full range as the much larger 71.96.0.0/11, which the two IPs outside of my given range are included in. It should be noted that several of these IPs are inexplicably labelled as socks of Czech vandal with a grudge (talk · contribs). I believe this labelling to be in error, as I see no similarities in edits, summaries, or target articles (they also edit from different continents). Someguy1221 (talk) 22:25, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Um, could we not block the entire 71.x.x.x range? My IP address happens to be in it (but it isn't any of those ones on the list! I'm no vandal!) MalwareSmarts (talk) 23:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think anyone advocates blocking that entire range, which would be a hugely disproportionate response. The most I've seen is a brief range block somewhere in the 71.99... range.--Kubigula (talk) 01:56, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
