[edit] 64.231.0.0/16 (talk • contribsdeleted contribsWHOISRDNStraceRBLshttpblock userblock log)

This individual has been regularly blanking Haim Saban (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs), Shuki Levy (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs), Saban Entertainment (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs), Power Rangers (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) and related articles. Since I've semiprotected a handful of these pages, he has simply moved onto to other articles. I tried blocking the range multiple times, but in this time the account Hornex (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log) was created. There you can see sample edits.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 05:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

This may be worth a report, especially since the IPs at the top have been active within the past two weeks, but I've got a little too much on my plate to open another case at the moment. Perhaps someone else can take it. --Darkwind (talk) 19:06, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Well, I've just been adding new ones that I find to the top of the list. I'd really appreciate it if we could get this guy to stop.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 19:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I've cleared out some more of the backlog, so I'll accept for investigation. --Darkwind (talk) 04:54, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Initial Report

The person behind these IP addresses is responsible for a pattern of continual POV-vandalism to Power Rangers related articles, as far back as December 30, 2006 and as recently as September 5, 2007. The majority of this person's disruptive edits are a copy/paste insertion of a long non-neutral rant against Haim Saban, creator of the American Power Rangers franchise, and against the franchise in general. These edits violate a number of official Wikipedia policies, including neutral point of view, no original research, and "Wikipedia is not a soapbox" (which prohibits propaganda).

Our normal response to users who behave this way is to block them from editing. However, this user is either issued a dynamic IP which changes frequently, or is purposefully changing their IP address to avoid blocks that have been issued (which, if true, is another violation of Wikipedia policy) or to try to mask their identity. Because this user's IP is changing across a fairly large address range, a block against all of these addresses, although technically possible, may cause undesired disruption to thousands of uninvolved Wikipedia users; additionally, if the user creates an account to use for login purposes, they will be able to circumvent the block. For these reasons, this report is being prepared for review by the organization responsible for these IP addresses.

  • 10 edits to 9 different pages between 01:33 and 01:51 UTC, September 5, 2007.
  • 2 edits were unsourced changes of fact to Toei Company in violation of Wikipedia's policy of verifiability: [1] [2]
  • The other eight edits were copy/paste insertions of user's rant against Haim Saban and the Power Rangers franchise as described above. (Samples: [3] [4] [5])

  • 1 edit at 07:28 UTC, August 30, 2007, another insertion of the same copy/paste rant. Link: [7]

[edit] 64.231.76.111 (talkcontribsdeleted contribsWHOISRDNStraceRBLshttpblock userblock log)

  • 13 edits to 12 different pages between 03:37 and 07:37 UTC, July 29, 2007.
  • 11 of those edits are again the copied rant as above, one of which was added to a talk page instead of an article: (Samples: [8] [9])
  • The other two edits were to the anon IP's own talk page, removing content posted by an automated bot program which had removed the user's vandalism, and replacing it with more anti-Power Rangers criticism (but leaving the bot's "signature", making it look to the uninformed that the bot had posted said messages.) This is in violation of the talk page policy: [10]

[edit] 64.231.73.32 (talkcontribsdeleted contribsWHOISRDNStraceRBLshttpblock userblock log)

  • 11 edits to 9 different pages between 03:47 and 03:51 UTC, June 20, 2007.
  • 2 edits were non-neutral or disruptive alterations to existing article text: [11] [12]
  • 2 edits were complete deletions of all article content ("blanking"): [13] [14]
  • 1 edit was a partial deletion of article content (the categories, navigational template, and interwiki link were removed): [15]
  • The remaining six edits are again insertions of the user's copy/paste rant. (Samples: [16] [17])
