Abuja FC is a Nigerian Football team which plays in the National D1 (the second tier of Nigerian football). Founded originally in Kano, the club is based in the Nigerian capital of Abuja and plays its home matches at the Old Parade Ground. They were founded as Buffalo FC by Luc Lagouche, a French teacher at the French School in Kano in order to "use sport as a factor for social integration and personal responsibility". They were promoted out of the amateur ranks within three years after beginning play against other teams. Renamed as "F.C. Abuja" after sponsorship from the EFCC, they finished 5th in their division in the 2006/07 season with 3 wins, 8 draws and 3 losses and won their first of consecutive Federal Capital Territory Cups. The buffalos' best ever product is home-grown Macauley Chrisantus who was the golden boot winner at the 2007 U-17 World Cup in Korea and is currently with Hamburger SV.
