[edit] Quick summary of Wikipedia's absolutism page

Absolutism – The concept by which one with absolute power cannot be questioned or disobeyed ; See Hobbes ; Under “Enlightened Absolutism”, rulers try to justify and solidify their absolute power by granting people Enlightenment liberties (once forced to do so). Ideally, they’d just like to rule with a straight iron fist. In an absolute monarchy, the ruler has the power to rule his country and citizens freely with no laws or legally-organized direct opposition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.234.69.28 (talk) 23:12, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
