WikiProject Illinois Post Census Report

On October 4, 2007 WikiProject Illinois embarked on a membership census. The census was the project's first since its establishment on September 24, 2005. Due to the nature of the wiki, and the two years that had passed, it seemed likely that many of the project's older members were no longer active. The project page had grown stagnant and the census provided an opportunity to see who was still around, slaving away in their own corner of the encylopedia, unknown to the rest of the Illinois editing world. Well, now, the tabulation is complete, and after a notice at the Community Portal, we have gained a couple new members amongst the cluster of project veterans who returned to sign up. Of the 55 members listed on the project membership list on October 4, 26 editors returned to the list to "resign up," thus, confirming their current activity within project areas. If you received this message, you were one of those editors. The List of Participants has now been updated to reflect the results of this membership survey, with members who failed to respond highlighted as "inactive." Now, as a group of editors, we have a core list of individuals, that will hopefully grow in size as the project strives to become a better organized central collaboration space for editors working on Illinois related topics.
The big question, where does the project go from here? Well there are a few proposals being floated at this project page. Little discussion has occurred thus far, and participation would be key to all of them. Some ideas include:

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bon Jovi Keep the Faith song.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Bon Jovi Keep the Faith song.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:12, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Illinois assessments
Yep, that was what I was talking about. :) Thanks. Your scale looks good to me, obviously, as you noted there are exceptions, and stuff like this is easily switched around if some people reasonably disagree. You may want to get with User:Kranar drogin if you haven't already, he did all of the backlog clearing in quality assessments, you two might make quite the team, and I think he has some sort of plan for some mass importance tagging too, for obvious articles, or categories, you'd have to talk to him. Orphaned non-free media (Image:710nsns.jpeg)
Thanks for uploading Image:710nsns.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:42, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Van Halen
I saw your comment on the talk page. I think information on the Roth era 74-85 features too much information on albums and needs a little trimming. But your comment on the Hagar era album coverage...I see your point. It needs reshaping so we can add some details without making the page any more bloated than it already is.
It's now a HUGE 59kb long. When I started working on it months ago it was about 70kb. I trimmed it to 54, but keep finding more details to add. (The Elfoid 01:18, 1 November 2007 (UTC))
The basic problem is it goes into specifics on the post-Cherone stuff and could possibly be generalised a bit more.
However, I think it's worth considering the fact that half the interesting stuff relating to Van Halen is the music, half is the social side. Controversy, fighting etc.
The Hagar tour and delays to the new Roth tour can be cut down I agree. But a lot happened in that period between those events and before them that everyone was scratching their head over. In the Hagar era, it did reach a point where a new Van Halen album was 'just another Van Halen album' and each one lost noteworthiness. Did F.U.C.K show any major changes in the band or affect their career? I don't think so personally.
Hagar Reunion tour is the one to trim down. We can say Eddie was drunk, Sammy ruled, promoters sometimes lost money, tickets were overpriced and it was a fairly-long 80 dates. What else NEEDS saying, really? (The Elfoid 10:32, 1 November 2007 (UTC))
After some serious consideration, I think the reunion tours should be trimmed down. Not erased, just had a lot of the information ported into the tour articles. Could possibly do this with Gary Cherone era too, though I'm not so keen on that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Elfoid (talk • contribs) 20:20, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Walkthiswaybook.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Walkthiswaybook.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --OrphanBot (talk) 10:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:158logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:158logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Zedla 03:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Swing State
Your opinion does not decide which state is a swing state and which is not. "But I'm sorry...Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas...these places are not going to go Democrat in 2008", that is clearly speculation and POV. An Indiana poll shows a Democrat leading a Republican so at this time Indiana should be listed a swing state. Just for reference Texas is not listed as a swing state on the article. Until you get some references that Indiana is NOT a swing state please stop reverting it. TheHoosierState89 (talk) 21:51, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Apology
My sincere apology. I misread the history on what you reverted, and have removed. Nevertheless, my removal of the song was not vandalism, and I don't appreciate it being called that. I hope we've both learned to be more careful from this incident. Again, my apologies. - BillCJ (talk) 08:28, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- I see now that the user I reverted was an IP, and since he made two edits to add that item, the undo feature doesn't work. Instead I used the new Rollback feature to revert him, but this doesn't allow for edit summaries. I almost never use rollbacks on registered users, but on IPs it's usually OK. This is a case where it wasn't vandalism, so I should have manually reverted, and left an explanjatory edit summary. I'll have to be more careful with the Rollback in the future - I know I have hit it by accident before, but I don't think this was such a case. Well, I am glad we could get this settled on our own, even if it started out badly. Thanks for accepting the apology. - BillCJ (talk) 08:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
