Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand (ALRANZ) is New Zealand's national pro-choice organisation. It has existed since 1971. One of its early members was renowned family planning doctor and pediatrician, Dr. Alice Bush (1914-1974). For most of the last thirty years, its President has been Dr. Margaret Sparrow, a Wellington gynecologist, who also had long-standing involvement with the Family Planning Association of New Zealand until her recent retirement.
ALRANZ supports total decriminalisation of abortion in New Zealand. Although abortion access has become increasingly easier for New Zealand women as membership of the New Zealand pro-life movement has declined, its members are conscious of the events in the United States that have seen a reduction in women's access to abortion. The organisation is based in Wellington, puts out a quarterly newsletter, and has its own website.
