Hi Brian,
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go overboard there. I'm new to all this. But, can you please advise me how I can best post about Malian culture here on Wikipedia? Thanks and best wishes, Aron
RE:This
- Your question is a bit confusing, but I think I can help! If you want to post about Malian culture, all you need to do is visit the pages related to Mali and edit them (just like you edited my user page to post your question). You may want to start at Mali, or Category:Mali for more ideas. But please be sure that you have read the welcome page and are familiar with Wikipedia policies regarding neutral point of view and source citation. Let me know if I can be of further help! [edit] Copyright problems with Image:Abdoulaye2.JPG

This image is property of Rootsy Records, Abdoulaye's label. I have permission to use the image, trust me.
- Wikipedia doesn't have permission to use it though, and that's the issue. — Saxifrage ✎ 00:10, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
How do I give Wikipedia permission, since we hold the copyright? Aron
- It's a bit complicated because it's hard to prove that you (the Wikipedia user) are the same person/people that own the copyright. I'm actually uncertain how to resolve that. Perhaps someone at Wikipedia:Help desk knows the answer? — Saxifrage ✎ 06:06, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, if the pic is removed I will complain. This is ridiculous. Ablesch 09:02, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Unless something is done to make Wikipedia's legal position regarding its use crystal-clear, it will be removed as a matter of course. There are ways of licensing it so that Wikipedia can use it, and I know how that works, but they all require a certain amount of proof that the original copyright holder has actually licensed them thusly. It's about the proof that I don't know how to proceed or advise you. This comes up not infrequently though, so I the think more experienced editors at the Help Desk can probably clear it up. — Saxifrage ✎ 16:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
We are the copyright holders and are giving permission for its use. How do I contact the help desk? --Ablesch 20:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Go to Wikipedia:Help desk, scroll down the page past the large box titled "Where to ask other kinds of questions", and follow the instructions under it that say "Please read the following instructions before asking your question:". They may not have an direct answer (though they might!), but if they don't they will be able to direct you. — Saxifrage ✎ 22:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Just emailed them and am awaiting favorable response. --Ablesch 14:04, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Abdoulaye.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Abdoulaye.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 01:58, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
