Abkhazian constitutional referendum, 1999

In tandem with the presidential elections, on October the 3rd 1999 a constitutional referendum was organised in the internationally unrecognised Republic of Abkhazia, in which the population was asked to express its opinion over the newly readopted 1925 constitution. Majority of the region's population, expelled from their homes during the conflict of 1992-93 did not have an opportunity of participating in the referendum.

Out of 219,534 officially registered voters, 87.6% turned up, of which 97.7% voted in support.
