Talk:Abigail Van Buren
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have changed this page to redirect to Jeanne Phillips instead of Pauline, as Jeanne is the one currently using the pseudonym. Would a disambiguation page have been more appropriate? It would seem like overkill to me, as Pauline is referenced on the Jeanne Phillips page. --Krychek 21:42, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
- With such small articles on either, a disambiguation page seems a little much. What would be preferred to me would be a separate page for 'Abigail Van Buren' that concentrates on the pen name and its history separately from the life stories of the two women who have used it. (i.e. keep the 'professional' aspects on the Abby page, put the personal aspects on separate Jeanne and Pauline pages, with links at the top of the Abby page. But, there's so little information now, that would be total overkill at present. Ehurtley 22:37, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
I started an article on the pen name 'Abigail Van Buren' and its history. There are separate "Pauline" and "Jeanne" pages now, as well as a separate "Dear Abby" page. There is such little information that it seems excessive to have so many pages, especially considering the fact that they all link to each other, but I think the "Dear Abby" and "Abigail Van Buren" articles could probably be expanded, at least so they would be worth keeping. I am very interested in the input and ideas of other Wikipedians on this.

[edit] merge
I'd like to suggest that Abigail Van Buren, the pen name for both columnists, be merged into the main Dear Abby article (since the pen name is intimately related to the column), and separate articles for the individual columnists be kept. This would help reduce duplication. -- phoebe/(talk) 00:26, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds like the best idea to me. The pen name is worth a topic of its own, but there is no need for two pages that replicate the same information. Merge Dear Abby and Abigail Van Buren, keep separate Pauline and Jeanne pages. Since this topic has been stale for a while, I'll do the merge next week if there is no other feedback.by doovie 09:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

- I agree that the two articles should be merged. They are both short articles containing much of the same information. Andrea Parton 05:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Delete living person categories
I want to delete the categories related to living people from this page:
- 1918 births
- Living people
- American advice columnists
- Morningside College people
- People from Sioux City, Iowa
- American journalist stubs
as a pseudonym is not a living person. Please see Richard Bachman, the pseudonym of Steven King, for example of categories. The above categories were already assigned to the both Phillips women, they don't belong to the pseudonym as well, in my opinion. XLerate 01:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Merge
I have merged this article with Dear Abby, as it is an exact duplicate of the information under the heading of "Name" in that article, and is, in fact, a pseudonym used in the writing of that column. There is no need in two articles covering the same column and pen name. I will leave the talk page for the time being for those who may be interested.
