Talk:Abhinav Kumar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OK, here's why I made the changes Bgs022 reverted for no good reason:

  • Listing Kumar's current publication count is nearly meaningless (because it regularly changes) and of no interest in an encyclopedia. For someone like Erdos with a staggering publication count, it might make sense, but here the number is in no way noteworthy.
  • The page said Kumar works at Microsoft Research but that is not true. (He moved to MIT as of last summer.)
  • The page said he recently visited Microsoft Research India. This is true, but it is of no more significance than any of the visits he has made to other research labs or universities, and it certainly not does merit discussion in Wikipedia.
  • The page also listed a full of paragraph of awards and prizes. The Putnam fellowship is noteworthy but already mentioned earlier in the article. The others are not noteworthy (a Harvard graduate fellowship held by a majority of math graduate students there, and several high school and undergraduate awards). There is no sense in mentioning any of them but the Putnam fellowship here. It's just fluff.
  • I also removed "Combatorics , Quantum Physics and Theorical Computer Science" from the list of areas he works in, on the grounds that it is not true. (Combinatorics is debatable, but I don't think it is a good description of his research interests. Quantum physics and theoretical computer science are areas he has never worked on or published anything in.)

If any of these changes are reverted, whoever does it should give either a compelling argument that the information is more noteworthy than I believe it is or a citation to show they are right about the facts. 24.61.85.87 (talk) 05:21, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
