Abhira kingdom

Abhira kingdom finds reference in Hindu scriptures, but its description and location varies according to the particular scripture.

The most ancient reference to Abhira Kingdom indicates its location on the banks of the River Saraswati. Other references indicate its location on the banks of the Indus. Sindh province was also called Abhirdesh, meaning the abode of Abhiras (people).

Currently, a number of scholars believe that term was used for holy Yadav kingdoms. In that way, Dwarka and Mathura of Lord Krishna were also Abhira kingdoms.


The most ancient book on sex, the Kama Sutra was composed in Abhira Kingdom.
