Abhi (Abhih) is Sanskrit Pali and Hindi word.

The first reference to the word 'Abhi' is found in Rigveda book 1, hymn 164. [1]
After that the word 'Abhi' frequently appear in ancient Sanskrit texts.

Although the word frequently appear in Vedas, Upnishad and Geeta the meaning of the word 'Abhi' is not clear. But it is generally agreed that 'Abhi' means 'to, towards, into, higher, about'. [2] [3]
Although the meaning of Sanskrit word is not clear, the meaning of Hindi word 'Abhi' is perfectly clear (if translated in English, Abhi means 'Now').
According to Swami Vivekananda the meaning of the word 'Abhih' mentioned in vedantas is 'fearless'. While pronouncing 'Abhih', 'h' remains silent letter.[4][5]

The word 'Abhi' is used as prefix to form many Indian male, female names and words. Example of names are Abhijeet, Abhilash, Abhimanyu, Abhishek, Abhinav, etc. Example of words are Abhidhamma, Abhikarta, Abhineta, Abhivandana, Abhiyan, Abhiyanta etc.
