SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 00:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DD

I invite you to come over and vote & discuss rather than removing the AfD tag, that is the proper way to deal with this if you are disagreeing. Because the errors the lister made are minor, and are not a good enough reason for there to not an AfD. instead you will have to refute their claims instead at the AfD. Mathmo Talk 01:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

After your note, I added in the 7th link you listed. Might add in others from elsewhere, if I bother to come across them. Though is getting late, so I'll leave that for later. Mathmo Talk 11:54, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Klasies River Caves

thanks for omo note. Now included in 'see also'. Autodidactyl 11:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your talk page

Please do not remove content from your talk page. It is sometimes considered an attempt to cover up any bad this said about you, which is what it looks like you have done. Talk page messages are not only for your own use, they are for others as well. If you feel your talk page is getting too long, you can archive it, or get Werdnabot to do it for you. —Vanderdeckenξφ 12:47, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Don't tell me what to do unless you can cite policy. Considering my cleanups over a span of time, I've not exhibited discrimination in cleaning up my talk page. Thanks for the auto-archiving suggestion though. --Amit 05:21, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Further on this point... it is not inherently wrong what he did. Users have a certain degree of freedom over the changes they make to their associated talk page. While it is not advisable to do what he did, instead archiving is preferred, it is not completely wrong. And the clean up of his talk page should be left up to his own choices. You are not allowed to tell a user what to do in these matters, however you may give them advice such as suggest to them that they read Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. Mathmo Talk 02:51, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

LMAO, thanks for the clean up. I don't think I was awake enough to edit. :) --Hughgr 05:35, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hierarchical Temporal Memory

Thanks for the note. Everything I removed was copyrighted text from http://www.numenta.com/Numenta_HTM_Concepts.pdf and other sources given in the article. Minor wording changes here and there do not make it acceptable to use the text in the article. If you wish to get a second opinion, you are certainly welcome to do so. If I made an error, any of the text can easily be restored, but I stand by my interpretation and action. --Spike Wilbury 16:55, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Saw you have been deleting an Iranian link in this article. I agree it looks a bit like an advert -- but it does seem to be a bona fide academic group? quota 13:28, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Assuming it is a user group, they can possibly advertise on Numenta's wiki, rather than here. Imagine there being a link to several Python user groups on the Python page - it would be crazy. Geographically based groups are not generally useful enough to warrant being listed here. I'm really busy so I'll probably just wait a few days and revert. --Amit 13:57, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
OK, but if it's a small group of academics trying to get started in a difficult environment then the fact that they exists adds credibility to the HTM approach as a whole. (But I'd be much happier if they had a login address so we could ask them to tone it down...) quota 17:11, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry but HTM doesn't need credibility from such user groups, and I'm sure there are more of such user groups. Credibility is achieved more seriously by use of the approach in systems, by publication of papers, and such. Moreover, it's really not that difficult to use something like HTM assuming one reads the documentation, etc. The difficult part was making the HTM NuPIC product. On that note, WP probably needs an article on the NuPIC software.
Ouch, isn't it the existence of user groups and the like that encourages the "use of the approach in systems, by publication of papers, and such"? Writing software and getting a product out is done everyday (many thousands of products a day, in fact). Getting people to use a product is the hard, and much more important, part. I wonder why you take the attitude is that the making of the product is the important bit? Perhaps associated a bit too closely with that product to be objective? :-) quota 20:02, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PTA

Thanks for noticing on the PTA. I deleted that entirely by accident. Gruber76 02:25, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lomborg

It doesn't belong in the lead - which is a WP:SUMMARY of the article. If you want it in, then please find somewhere to put it - with adequate information to make it a notable enough item, to raise beyond the trivia level. In Denmark this would be easy as Lomborg has been an advocate for gay rights, and for raising awareness of gay issues (for instance the OBS spots on DR). But outside of Denmark (and in the larger encyclopedic sense) its a trivia issue. Personally (from a Danish perspective) i find it a notable item - but from a broader international (and encyclopedic) perspective, i rather doubt if its a notable item. --Kim D. Petersen 10:55, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Added a bit more info - so that its not just a trivia section under a different section title. --Kim D. Petersen 14:04, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ono

For your information, I've corrected the change you made to the description of the Ono plugin because it was incorrect. As the author of the plugin, I believe I have sufficient authority and expertise, and I'll explain how you were wrong.

1) Ono does not find peers based on geographic locality. It finds them based on network views gathered by content distribution networks. These views are based on a number of factors, and largely driven by quality of service from the CDN.

2) Latency: Ono is in fact extremely good at finding low-latency paths to peers. In our analysis from over 100,000 users in over 100 countries, we found that the median RTT latency to peers found by Ono is two orders of magnitude smaller than that to peers selected at random by vanilla BitTorrent.

3) Download performance: Our data indicates that download performance improves by 33% on average for all of our peers. Not everyone will see that level of improvement, and users in certain lucky network locations (e.g., Romania) are seeing ridiculously huge improvement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drchoffnes (talk • contribs) 19:02, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

If you look carefully at the edits to the Azureus article, you will see that I never added any 'incorrect' information about Ono, and therefore therefore the allegation that I was wrong is inapplicable. The corrections you stated refer to incorrect edits made by other user(s). It's great to know all this about Ono, but it still doesn't seem to address how an individual user such as myself can quantitatively know the performance improvements. Thanks. --Amit (talk) 22:08, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Independence.Day.SE.1996.iNTERNAL.DVDRip.XViD-TWiST.nfo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Independence.Day.SE.1996.iNTERNAL.DVDRip.XViD-TWiST.nfo.png. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Lokal_Profil 16:35, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Borg cube ship over earth.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Borg cube ship over earth.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:17, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of nfo image

Please state why you chose to delete Image:Independence.Day.SE.1996.iNTERNAL.DVDRip.XViD-TWiST.nfo.png. As per its archived debate of the proposed deletion, there was only one user who wanted it deleted, and there were two wanted it kept. A consensus for deletion was not present. --AB (talk) 08:04, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

The image was used only as an example of a file in .nfo format. Simple ASCII art isn't too hard to make, so the image was replaceable and thus failed WP:NFCC#1 (replaceability). —Remember the dot (talk) 16:33, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Alcohol Rub Article

According to the extensive discussion above there is a WP rule against advertizing. Or maybe there is a rule against advertising for just some individuals and/or products. I have added a photo of a typical liquid alcohol rub and a typical foam alcohol rub to the article. I assume this is OK with everyone? I also have no problem with the image of the CVS alcohol gel being prominently displayed (the lead image?) at the top of the article and the liquid and foam alcohol rubs being "stuck" in the gallery where no one will see them. I am assuming no one will object to the removal of the CVS alcohol gel image from the gallery so there is no redundancy? However to be fair, and we must be fair, the Image at the top of the article (the lead image?) should be rotated so that each alcohol rub has it's day? week? month? "moment in the spotlight". I believe this would be the only "fair" thing to do. What is the consensus? I will be more than happy to make certain all of the alcohol rubs get their "moment in the spotlight"JSHibbard (talk) 21:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Natalya Kasperskaya.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Natalya Kasperskaya.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 11:34, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
