Aberdeen University's Men's Hockey Club is one of the most historic clubs in Scottish hockey, having been founded in 1903.
The AUMHC is one of the largest and most popular clubs within the University and the Sports Union. We are now in our 105th year and the club is stronger than ever with over 40 members. Our success is due to our commitment to hockey both as a common interest and as a common reason to get together and have a good time.
We cater for all levels of hockey experience from complete beginners to internationals. Currently we have three competitive teams, and a fourth beginner’s team, who play matches on Saturdays and Sundays. Our 1’s play national league hockey, our 2’s play in regional league and our 3’s play in the local district league. We are also represented by our top 3 teams in the BUSA league. You can take your hockey as seriously or non-seriously as you like, we don’t mind!
All our training and home matches take place at our very own fortress that is the Hillhead Centre (formerly Keith Park). The Hillhead Centre boasts a fully floodlit Astroturf that was resurfaced just last year. Training times are Monday 9pm-10pm, Wednesday 3pm-4.30pm and Thursday 7.30pm-9pm. We also now offer a fitness session on Tuesday evening for the extra-keen. Everyone is welcome to come along and give us a try, regardless of ability.
We are also sponsored by the Kirkgate Bar and Liquid Nightclub in the centre of town where you can usually find us most nights of the week especially on Wednesday nights. The Kirkgate provide us with strips, after match food and a meeting place from which to commence our various social nights.
Social events are frequent within the club, and nearly always involve the women’s hockey club. Highlights include the Curry Night, Family Ties and of course the annual Hockey Ball. These socials ensure easy integration into university club life and are always great banter.
So whatever your standard of hockey and whatever your intentions, be it getting fit, meeting new people or looking for more excuses to go out, we look forward to welcoming you to the glorious and proud AUMHC!
