Aberdeen is a neighbourhood in the southern area of Kamloops, BC. It is bordered by Highways 5A ( known as the Old Merrit highway) to the east and the Trans Canada Highway to the north. Located on the slope of the southern hills overlooking Kamloops, Aberdeen has a commanding view of the city and surrounding Thompson River valley.
While primarily residential, Aberdeen is home to a number of retail locations, including the Aberdeen Village shopping center, Aberdeen Mall, Costco, Home Hardware, and Rona (currently under construction).
As one of the fastest growing neighbourhoods in Kamloops, Aberdeen has become a popular location to live for both new and current residents, with a mix of multi-unit condominiums in the lower portion of Aberdeen and larger single family dwellings in the upper areas. It is one of the most transit-accessible neighbourhoods of Kamloops, serviced by both the Aberdeen #7 and Pacific Way #4 bus routes. It is within walking distance of industrial Southgate as well as both Lower and Upper Sahali.
Aberdeen is also home to many of the cities hotels, mainly situated on the Rogers Way corridor between Hugh Allan Drive, one of the neighbourhood's main thoroughfares, and Highway 5A.
There is currently an effort to establish an Aberdeen Community Association and a preliminary meeting of the organization will be held in early June, 2008.
Due to its supposedly affluent nature and high real estate costs, Aberdeen is often regarded with derision by other residents of Kamloops.
