Abel Fernando Moreira Ferreira, known as Abel (born 22 December 1978 in Penafiel) is a Portuguese footballer, currently playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal.
Abel developed as a useful right-back while at Vitória Guimarães, then switched to another Minho side in 2004-05, Sporting Braga.
In January 2006, Abel transferred to Sporting Lisbon, in a two-way loan deal involving Wender, a Brazilian left winger, who already had represented the northern side. Abel's loan was made permanent before 2006-07.
In 2007-08, Abel scored a spectacular goal against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League group stage, in a 2-1 away loss. He also debuted in Portugal national football team during that season.
