Abe River

The Abe River (安倍川 Abekawa, also Abegawa?) is a river in Shizuoka Prefecture of central Japan. It is 53.3 kilometers long and has a 567.0 km² watershed.
The river rises from Akaishi Mountains which stretch over the border between Yamanashi Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture, and goes through the west of central Shizuoka City and flows into Suruga Bay (on the Pacific Ocean). It is known for its clear stream and supplies water to Shizuoka City. There are numerous hot springs at the river head, which is also known for landslides.
Shogun [[Tokugawa Ieyasu] carried out extensive construction and formed the present route of the lower course of the river. Abekawamochi (安倍川餅), mochi (rice cake) dusted with kinako (soybean flour), was a traditional cake served at teahouses beside the river.
