Abdolvahaab Shahidi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abdolvahaab Shahidi was an Iranian barbat¹ player and singer born on 1914 in Meymeh (of Isfahan province). He began cultivating these talents in Tehran, where he sang and played the barbat.

Soon his talent was discovered by Banan in Iran's National Radio Organization (Radio Iran) and was invited to perform there.

Master Shahidi has had several performances as both a barbat player and a singer. He has both national and international fame, and he is very well known as a talented oud player in the Arabic world as well as the Persian world.

His singing, along with his barbat playings, are one of a kind and have kept its connection with Iranian people throughout generations. Zendegi, which is probably his most famous song, was broadcast on a daily basis all over Iran before the Iranian Revolution and, as a result, is a song that virtually all older Iranians are familiar with.
