ABC In Concert

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ABC In Concert was a television series which premiered on September 21, 1972, as part of ABC network's Friday night Wide World of Entertainment programming. Alice Cooper appeared on that first episode, and The Allman Brothers Band on the second. Created by Don Kirshner, the show was a 90 minute showcase for bands of the era to be taped "in concert" and broadcast on ABC. FM Radio stations across the country simulcast the program. The FM sound quality was much better than television in those days, however, the sound was often not lip synced. By the mid-70s, Don Kirshner moved on to create the syndicated series Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and Dick Clark took over In Concert.

The series was revived in 1991, featuring a performance by David Bowie, but the revival series wasn't as well-received, and it eventually faded from the screen by 1998.[citation needed]
