Aviation WikiProject Welcome

Climate section in Bangladesh

I reverted your recent addition to Bangladesh ... i.e. the spitting of the climate/geography section. There are two reasons: this is a featured article, so any major changes to the structure should be discussed in the talk page. Also, the climate section doesn't have enough material to justify a section by itself. Thanks. --Ragib 23:46, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem - checked the discussion page after I'd made the edit and realised it was FA class but you beat me to the reversion! Thanks. AA 06:49, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

IP Vandalism

Mhh, I suspect it could be a shared IP so I'd want until they vandalise another two times in the near future because if it is a shared IP, it may be inappropriate here, thanks for telling me abd I'll keep an eye on it.Tellyaddict 19:24, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Islam - Your edit summary

Regarding this edit summary, take note, first, of the distinction between philosophy and philology, and then that this topic has been discussed fairly extensively on the talk page, on which it is you who have not appeared.Proabivouac 15:32, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Apologies for that - didn't realise there was already discussions on this in the talk page (usually look out for "see talk" comment in the edit summary). Please feel free to revert it and as it is being discussed, I'll remain Neutral. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 16:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

The Sylhet page

Sylhet is a part of Greater Sylhet Division and administrative niceties like Division, District and Thana etc have little meaning. In practice ppl see themselves as Sylheti. Besides, 'Londonis' tend to be from Sylhet, Habiganj, Moulvi Bazaar and Shunamganj ie. all over. We all tend to have homes in Sylhet (usually Amborkhana or Uposhohor etc). Therefore the Dhaka model doesn't work with us.

Thanks for your updates to the article. I would recommend you sign-up for an account to allow more fruitful participation in discussions and contributions to WikiPedia.
Regarding your comment, I am Sylheti myself and I know what your referring to but this particular article is about the city and should be written from such a perspective. Currently, it appears a bit biased around the "Londoni-Sylheti" angle and therefore missing a lot of useful information about the city (like transportation, education institutes, army colleges, theme park, etc.) which are all in Sylhet city. If you can add any info on these topics, it would make the article much better.
It is a city after all and there is no reason why it can't model articles on other cities around the world (in terms of structure).

For background details about the accounts previously used by this user, you might refer to Habz (talk · contribs) block log, and Talk:Drishtipat. Thanks. --Ragib 09:03, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
It ought to be noted that Ragib is an undeclared member of the Awami League and Drishtipat, and a Dhakaiya to boot. He interferes in the Sylhet wiki article but not in the Dhaka article where unsubstantiated info is being used. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.74.41.133 (talk • contribs)
I have a complete NPOV on bangladesh politics - couldn't care less who's in power as long as they serve the people and do agree (in most part) with the policies of the current caretaker government in tackling corruption at the highest levels. I also don't have a problem with people from other parts of Bangladesh and so far, from what I've observed in my short time at WP, Ragib has been upholding WP values. I am sure he will continue to do the same for any Sylhet related article. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 19:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Airport/Aircraft photos

By any chance, do you have photos of ZIA, Ctg Shah Amanat Airport, and others? Please upload them to commons so that we can use them in Bengali wikipedia too. --Ragib 18:59, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I've uploaded one of Shah Amanat Airport but do have a couple more and some for Zia which I'll add to commons this week. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 19:14, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Removal of notice for Kirbytime

I've asked that question here to the admin, who Kirbytime also reverted. Kirbytime editwars with admins. I think that says enough about this editor. Not to mention this is his 4th block in the last 30 days. I would advise that you should only speak on behalf of editors who are good contributors to this site. --Matt57 (talkcontribs) 19:40, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Cheers Matt. I'm not speaking of behalf of Kirbytime at all - but purely from a policy perspective. My philosophy is to always assume good faith. But I do believe that one is perfectly right to remove contents from their talk page - even warnings (see WP:USER#Removal of warnings. Just thought you may not be aware of this policy, so wanted to bring it to your attention. Regards. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 19:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I didnt know that policy existed. I've RV'd myself now. I'm not going to RV anything from his user or userpage now. I'll leave that to the admins. I doubt he'll stop having encounters with them, like he did on his userpage. The reason I removed it that I had seen many times the message "Please do not remove warnings", on talk pages of vandals, so I thought a policy might exist for that.--Matt57 (talkcontribs) 20:02, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah - I've done that a few times before and assumed the same - just copying other's examples. I then came across this policy statement and realised it's probably not widely known. So, I've made it one of my objectives to make this known to other editors - as reverting talk pages often escalates into bigger issues (as I've observed). ? AA (talkcontribs) — 20:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I tell you what. Users should not be allowed to remove warnings like this for atleast a number of days or so. This is similiar to having a sex offender but deleting his criminal record after 2 days of the crime. To discourage criminal editing, policies should stronger. I'll just make that suggestion on the talk page of that policy. --Matt57 (talkcontribs) 20:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually, its a guideline, not a policy, I just read that: "This page is considered a guideline on Wikipedia. .. However, it is not set in stone and should be treated with common sense" - my opinion is that warnings should definitely stay. Theres a reason why bad credit stays in our credit report for 7 years. but I'll let the admins deal with Kirby so I wont revert ofcourse. That doesnt matter. What matters is that he comes and does better editing that he's been doing. --Matt57 (talkcontribs) 20:29, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

(Outdent) Yeah - that page is a guideline but the detail is in the wording of the actual paragraph:
Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages
It says there is no policy to prevent users from deleting stuff. Conversely then, there is no policy to say one must not do it - so it isn't an enforceable offence (that's how it reads anyway). With some of the vandalism I come across, it would be reasonable to suggest warnings aren't removed for (say) 24 hours but without policy backing, a user would be within their rights to do so. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 20:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I know, but what I meant was, users shouldnt be allowed to remove warnings like this. The policy or guidelines, are defective. Thats akin to me going to DMV and asking them to clear by driving points soon after I get caught for drunk driving. Thats whats I meant, sorry if I wasnt clear. --Matt57 (talkcontribs) 23:02, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Template replacement

Is there another alternative, such as - you change the existing Quran-usc so that it does what you're trying to do? That way you wont have to change all the articles. The superscripts are looking good. At a glance we can see which Quran verse this is and we can also click on the link directly, rather than, go to the Ref and click it there and then come back to where we were. This is ok with me but I hope its acceptable to other editors on Islam as well. As you know there wasnt much input to this whole affair. There is one thing though, that direct external links within the article may be discouraged (I'm not sure). You could ask confirmation from editors at WP:EL and WP:CITE to make sure you're not doing anything thats not the standard. Sorry it didnt occur to me before to mention this to you. --Matt57 (talkcontribs) 00:52, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion on changing the existing template. I'd requested a bot to do that but Mets501 helpfully updated the old template to point to the new one - so no changes required in the articles.
Regarding the external link issue, the new template doesn't change that. The existing {{Quran-usc}} template (and it's derivatives) did/do that also so I assumed it was acceptable. Obviously, if this issue is raised we'd have to argue that the benefit far outweighs the removal. Thanks again for you help on this initiative. I'll let the dust settle and then propose a similar scheme for the hadith templates. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 09:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh ok, sounds good then. --Matt57 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Bot request

Hi, is it possible to use regexp search/replace with this bot?

I need the following regexp:

{{[Qq]uran-usc|([0-9]+)|([0-9]+)}}

replaced with:

{{cite quran|\1|\2|style=nosup|expand=no}}

for all pages using this template.

Thanks. ? AA (talkcontribs) — 17:30, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

There's no need. This should do the trick :-) —METS501 (talk) 19:37, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - seems so simple now :) ? AA (talkcontribs) — 19:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Biman Bangladesh Airlines rating

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has B rating now, and has been submitted for a GA rating. See the project page. Aditya Kabir 08:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Aditya. The rating was actually for the Aviation project but based on your comments, I've upped it to B on the Bangladesh project also. → AA (talkcontribs) — 08:40, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Bad mistake. There indeed were two different banners needing individual ratings. Hahaha. Well, are you interested in collaborating on Bangladesh geographical articles? (one more thing, may be you can reconsider marking reverts as minor edits. They are not minor and is one of the most powerful editing tools available to us, particularly when it comes to fighting vandalism.). Aditya Kabir 09:29, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for highlighting the revert issue. I think I've been using WP:TWINKLE for all reverts but I guess that should only be used for vandalism. Will be more vigilent.
Regarding geographical articles on Bangladesh, I do try and assist where/when I can. Did some minor stuff on the Shahbag article for it's peer-review. Don't have much time to dedicate to WP and do want to expand the BD aviation sector articles but if there's anything specific do let me know and I'll help where I can. Thanks. → AA (talkcontribs) — 09:22, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, thanks. Because of you I came the category of Bangladesh Airlines. I can see that a lot needs to be done there. Air Bangladesh and Royal Bengal Airline are shaping up alright albeit a bit slowly, Bismillah Airlines and Zoom Airways are just two tiny little stubs, Parabat and Best Aviation don't even exist. Besides, there has been a lot of criticism about the all the Bangladeshi airlines, with Biman Bangladesh officials facing corruption charges and irregularity charges brought against most of the private airlines (especially about those Hajj Flights and stuff). And, there's no article on the history of aviation in Bangladesh (you see, my particular area of interest is history, geography I do only on the side, or as a collateral). Keep the good work going. Aditya Kabir 16:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah - a lot of work is required on this category. I didn't even know that there were other airlines apart from Biman & GMG in Bangladesh! A few of them have passed away into history but some are still running and there are many new ones starting up this year (Royal Bengal Airline, Air Sylhet, United Airways (Bangladesh)). An article on the history of aviation in BD would be a good read. I've also got the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh article on my todo list. → AA (talkcontribs) — 11:24, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Biman Bangladesh: Failed GA

The article has failed it's Good Article Nomination. The reasons are given on Talk:Biman Bangladesh Airlines. If those could be improved, it could be resubmitted as a nominee. Please, take a look. Aditya Kabir 11:19, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Aditya. I will try to address the points raised by the GA review. → AA (talkcontribs) — 13:44, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Do you need a hand there? I don't see me doing anything more important for the next hour or so. Aditya Kabir 21:48, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
I popped out after doing the last change - so missed your message. I was going to ask if you could assist in the lead as I've been involved too much in the detail, it's going to be difficult to choose what to put in the summary. I've done all I think that needs doing, so when you get a chance over the next few days feel free to edit as required. Thanks again for your help. → AA (talkcontribs) — 23:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Expanded the lead. Submitting as a GA nominee again. Aditya Kabir 15:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Congratulations. It's a GA now. Let's get the article through a closer scrutiny (may be use some of the suggestions I left here). Then take it to a peer review and/or GA collaboration. And, then really submit it as an FA candidate. Bangladesh needs more featured articles, so does the aviation project. Cheers. Aditya Kabir 07:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

(Outdent) Thanks! I believe to receive FA status, the article will have to be expanded further with more in-depth details of the current restructuring as well as details on passenger numbers, profit/loss reports for the past few years (available at www.mof.gov.bd), etc. In the short term, I will now concentrate some effort into the other airlines of BD (GMG, UAB, RBA, AirSylhet) and also the 3 international airports - which should all be at least GA class. → AA (talkcontribs) — 10:54, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Air Sylhet

This is regarding the Air Sylhet article. I just want to ask you why you keep on writing about the trademark all the time? This is irrelevant to the article. I am not going to remove it but was hoping if you could remove it yourself as mentioning this does no favour to the article. Also this applies to the Royal Bengal Airline article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.139.217.187 (talk • contribs)

Hi anon, please see my reply in the Air Sylhet talk page on why it is relevant to the article. I agree that mentioning it does no favour but I don't think that applies to the article but rather to one or both of the companies involved. However, that is no reason not to present factual information to the readers. I hope that both the companies will resolve this issue amicably (if indeed anything does need to be resolved - as it maybe that Air Sylhet is a subsidiary of Royal Bengal Airline and the investors are being duped!). → AA (talkcontribs) — 14:20, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Just asking

Did you take a look at this Aviation Safety Database? I thought it might help. Also, can you lend a hand to expand the sections on Bangladesh Air Force and Biman Bangladesh Airlines sections in History of aviation in Bangladesh? And, oh, I've expanded you note links on that talk page quite a bit. Care to take a look? Cheers. Aditya Kabir 15:59, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Yep - I went through the ASN database (it's referenced in a few of the accidents). I don't know much about the BAF but I can certainly take a look at the Biman section. I've added more notes in the Biman talk page for expanding it per comments from reviewers. → AA (talkcontribs) — 16:42, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Profanity

Thank you AA. the comment wasn't a personal attack, it relates to what was said here and the subsequent spamming done by the user asking the questions. ITAQALLAH 14:55, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I saw the profanity and didn't actually look at the context - I believe profanity should not be used even under normal circumstances but I'm still new here :)

I checked out the contribs of "that" user. He must've used some kind of bot(?) Is there a script/bot (maybe admin only) to revert all contribs by a given user? It would take some time to revert all those contribs! → AA (talkcontribs) — 21:48, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

PDFbot with Cite web

Is it possible to adapt this BOT to add filesizes to citations based on {{cite web}}?

  • e.g. {{cite web |url=<url> |title=<title> |format=PDF |...}}

AA (talkcontribs) — 12:26, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Thus far nobody besides myself has pushed for a |size= parameter in web cite. And I'm not going to start work until the binary vs. SI prefixes dispute is resolved. Other than those two thing I'd like to work this feature. —Dispenser 16:48, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up. I think this would be a useful addition to the template. → AA (talkcontribs) — 21:53, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Language movement

Hi, Language movement is in WP:FAC, and with User:Rama's Arrow's departure, the article needs more eyes and minds in order to clear FAC. So, could you do some copyedit, and handle some concerns expressed in the FAC page? Thanks. --Ragib 06:58, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

please stretch your helping hand for Language movement. For one year we tried to improve the article and now it is reaching to a hollywood ending. Ask me if you want me to do ANYTHING about the article. We would need a few talented copyeditors. Tarif from Bangladesh 07:49, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Mahdi

Regarding your edit, the article itself lists groups who disagree with the very existence of a Mahdi figure. If you look at the history of the article, you'll notice the little not has been removed numerous times by anonymous editors who seem to think their version of Islam is the only Islam. You were right about the structure of the sentence, which has grown a little stilted, so I made it a little cleaner and in agreement with the first half. Elijahmeeks 19:44, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

AfDs

can I make a suggestion? When you find refs, as you so usefully did for sexercises-- it helps to add them immediately--this will improve the article for those who see it after you in the discussion. (unless of course you think it would be wasted effort for a doomed article--but who would want to say keep and admit that? ) DGG 01:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

History of aviation in Bangladesh

I have started the page. Please, take a look, and lend a hand, too, if possible. The private airlines chart needs massive help in particular. The article will also need to expand the post independence history, military aviation, and ample source references. It will also need proper linking for airplane models (unfortunately I know almost nothing about airplane models). Cheers. Aditya Kabir 16:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Yep - just saw that. Thought it was amusing to start with Kites :). I'll add where I can. Could you add sources as you go along so we can review them also and extract any useful bits for the article. In particular, where can I get the information about the private airlines? → AA (talkcontribs) — 17:07, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Hahaha! See Aviation history#Before the 20th century to find out - that article also begins with kites. In fact, I have a mind to look up the myths about flights - magic carpets, riding on imaginary birds - and incorporate into the article to make it complete. We are discussing flights here, not manned flights, engined flights or recorded flights. Therefore, I guess, it needs more than balloons and airplanes to become complete.
Well flying carpets would actually fit really well in the history of aviation in Bangladesh! Check out the articles on Sylhet and Shah Jalal!! → AA (talkcontribs) — 20:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Some private airlines are already there in the Category:Airlines of Bangladesh (Zoom Airways and Air Bangladesh and more). A Google search may help (Daily Star online has always proven to be a good source to me, the Aviation page on some of theose Bangladeshi newspapers would help too). Banglapedia online may be a good source, too, though a little outdated. Some of these airlines must also have their own website. Aditya Kabir 19:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Ah OK. Request usage of the citation templates and add refs as we go along as historical facts will be questioned when the article goes for GA. → AA (talkcontribs) — 20:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay. Let me run through the ideas first, and that would take a couple of days more. Please, check out that sandbox if you wonder what that means. Your expertise with the guidelines/processes and the codes/technology will certainly come very handy. And, oh, I was hoping to see that cute trick you use to link your reply to the others' talk pages again. Why did you not use it? It was so very nice. Aditya Kabir 18:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I can do templates and stuff :) I've got the sandbox on my watchlist but will let you do your initial stuff. So, let me know of any specific task where I can help. → AA (talkcontribs) — 20:46, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Sounds okay. I'll let you know. Aditya Kabir 04:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, sorry. I was trying identify the person who left quite a number of useful seggestions on Bangladesh wikiproject discussion page, which I have now shifted to open-tasks. May be you would like to delete that person's redundant talk page as well, since it's not being used anyways. Aditya Kabir 03:26, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
hmmm....I thought I'd replaced all instances of the old name. Feel free to update to the new name if you come across anymore :) Thanks. → AA (talkcontribs) — 07:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Second coming.

  • [DONE] The box on top of Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Collaboration needs formatting help. It overlaps with the navigation template on the right hand side.
  • [Not needed?] Has no separating space from the index at its bottom. And, it would be great if we could put a light color in as its background.
  • [DONE] Also, how do I revamp my signature? I need to have "talk" and "contribs" showing, like yours does, and I also would love to trim it down to just "Aditya" instead of the longer name. Aditya Kabir 17:43, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Can you tweak the Template:WP Bangladesh codes to replace the "Wikiproject Bangladesh History" parameter with "Bangladesh History Workgroup"? Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:54, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

There was already a history parameter pointing to the workgroup. → AA (talk) — 00:37, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

My new signature

Thanks, dear. You should have my new signature first. Yeyyyy. Now, can I add the color deep pink to my name ("Aditya") and make it bold? Aditya (talkcontribs) 21:22, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Yep - go for it (you can add pink if you like too) :-D [just add HTML tags where appropriate e.g. Aditya]. → AA (talkcontribs) — 21:43, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again. It looks real cute now. Aditya(talkcontribs) 22:03, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Ultrabias SP

Hi, I've noticed that User:Ultrabias has been editing a lot of Islamic pages which I only cleaned up per style guide. I wasn't aware of this person before and a lot of reverts show my user name. please don't think I am connected to this person and in the majority of the pages they were small style changes. The style guide never says that prepositions HolY, Beloved etc should be removed and that was not my purpose. Please understand that I have nothing to do with this editor. Mike33 - t@lk 21:38, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mike. No problem - actually he tried to force a change in the style guide to go along with his mass changes. However, I have just blanket reverted them all per WP:BAN with an appropriate comment which I see had it's effect :) → AA (talk) — 21:53, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Re your comment on SahihAlbukhari.com

re your post here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Servant114&oldid=145537258

... I find it exceedingly difficult to understand how you can consider as spam, the addition of the reputable, highly-considered site www.sahihalbukhari.com, a site that was founded to digitize the complete collection of Al-Bukhari's Sahih. The site is at present the only site on that list that has the arabic and the english to the Sahih, and it is removed as a promotional site. This site is recongnized by many as the go-to site for Bukhari's Sahih.

Please re-consider carefully.

The site is referenced from other very reputable Islamic sites, such as Salaf.com.

A. Servant114 21:23, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

I removed it based on WP:EL which says: "A site that requires registration or a subscription should not be linked unless the web site itself is the topic of the article". Hope that clarifies but I will certainly re-consider if the site can be accessed without requiring registration. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 21:31, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I now know that either you only took a very cursory look at the site, or you had a latent reason for removing it: the site does not require any sort of registration to access it's content. See the table of contents: http://sahihalbukhari.com/sps/sbk/sahihalbukhari.cfm?scn=contents ; anyone with due diligence would have at least tried the search to see if results were coming up. Registration is allowed if you yourself would like to remember which verses you read previously, and to track your own study, but it is by no way a requirement before accessing the content. I eagerly away your final response. Servant114 22:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I had no ulterior motive and did take more than a cursory glance. Admittedly, I did not try the search but all other relevant links brought a login dialog. It will be more relevant if you could add the link to the contents page (as the "tab" on the right does not give an impression that it is a button (based on widely recognised interface styles) which I did not click. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 22:18, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Skytrax

Actually it was "Companes of the United Kingdom" that I was restoring, which is definitely not empty! Russavia seems to have a bee in his bonnet about Skytrax, but a private company doesn't have to be registered in the UK. Harry was a white dog with black spots 09:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

No problem ;) Sorry I was a bit harsh and not very tactful, but I almost deleted the case without double checking if it had been archived properly :). Thanks! -- lucasbfr talk 10:09, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Indeed that was not archived :). Well to be honest we have a clerking system on this noticeboard (WP:RFCU/C) to help things archived so usually the best is to leave the case as it is and someone will archive it properly after a few days. -- lucasbfr talk 20:45, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

List of Muslim reports

I think most of them actually aren't notable, barring the odd exception. a lot of these "Hadith of..." articles have been nominated for deletion before, which have been usually unsuccessful as far as i remember. it may be worth nominating the most trivial reports at least, just to see how the community feels about it. not only do most of them fail notability guidelines, it appears to be a clear violation of WP:NOT. Hi, I'd like to draw your attention to Bangladesh portal. I have tried to address the concerns in earlier peer review and checked the portal against Featured portal criteria. Abu Usamah

Hello, I reverted that addition because it had no references, no edit summury, and it is a controversial topic where vandalism is not obvious. I told the user who added that to look for sources. Finally, the user had been added the exact same thing in many pages. Note that I did not warn her for vandalism, but for adding unsourced claims in controversial topics. Re:

AA, we can't put all the conflicts behind if you insist on distorting the truth on how Fatima died. I'll try to contact other editors and write another version, and maybe then we could reach a consensus and show both points of view. KlakSonnTalk 15:15, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Klaksonn, please copy and paste the sentence/para into the review section and put forward what you think is wrong with it. I have tried my utmost to ensure it is balanced. The Shia view in the death section is taken from Fatima the Gracious. Honestly, I am not trying to push my or Sunni views but trying to keep it neutral - the article would (with a little tweaking) pass the GA criteria. Could you give me an opportunity to address your concerns? Please discuss which bits you aren't happy with in the talk page. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 15:33, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

User:QuakeSim

This user has already been notified of the AfD. This user has already been notified that the AfD has closed. User:Jreferee's notice was redundant and confusing - especially to a new user. His insistance on reposting it - especially after the my explanation on his talk page - is highly inappropriate. Rklawton 20:30, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

The QuakeSim AfD was open today and closed an hour later. My use of the AfD warning notification ten hours after the AfD was closed was a resonable mistake, and an apparent one at that. The posts on my talk page today stated that "the 1st only closed just this week" which was misleading and that the AfD notification was posted today when the AfD was closed yesterday, which was not true. It also is not true that I reposted the AfD warning after Rklawton explained that the notice was redundant and confusing. And three minutes after I am asked to only discuss the matter on my talk page, the above post was made. Hopefully, this AA meeting ends the matter. -- Jreferee (Talk) 21:12, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
It was good faith mistakes all round :) I can understand Rklawton's comments about the "1st AfD" as I also thought it may have been re-nominated and had to double check the article to see if a new tag was there and also the AfD list. But I can also understand, your assumption that a notice was not given since the earlier one did not use the standard template. Just goes to prove that things can certainly be calmed down by following the correct cycle; Be Bold, Revert with explanation, Discuss. At the end of the day, this should be a piece of cake for QuakeSim (from NASA) to quickly get to grips with. I mean it's not rocket science :o → AA (talk) — 21:37, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Yup - except we were a bit short on the discussion end of things. A bit of checking before reverting on Jreferee's part would have cut all this short. To wit:
  • The AfD was opened yesterday diff
  • The user was notified yesterday by the nominating editor diff
  • The AfD was closed yesterday diff
  • Jreferee's notice to the user was posted today diff
  • Jreferee is then notified the AfD has already closed diff
  • Jreferee reposts the notice anyway diff
  • Jreferee is told posting a notice about a closed AfD isn't appropriatediff
  • Jreferee reposts the notice again diff

That should clear things up a bit. Rklawton 21:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Today is 14 August 2007. From you own diff, the AfD was opened today at 00:58, 14 August 2007 diff and closed today at 01:54, 14 August 2007diff My notifications to QuakeSim's talk page were posted on 14 August 2007.[3] Stating things happened "yesterday" and "today" is not true. Posting a notice about a closed AfD was a mistake by me. QuakeSim would have recognized that mistake because he was already notified the AfD was closed (as you acknowledge), the links provided in my posting were to that closed AfD, and he is a rocket scientist or at least knows one. Your deletion of my post on another's talk page was inappropriate and could have been handled merely by posting a reply that the AfD was closed. I restored the AfD notification and was in the process of posting such a reply on User:QuakeSim' stalk page when AA's posting of a similar note on QuakeSim's talk page cause an edit conflict,[4] which messed with my computer and caused me to have to reboot. You asked AA for assistance, AA restored my QuakeSim talk page post and added a reply similar to what I was attempting to add. You then deleted AA's post and my post.[5]. I hope your experience on Wikipedia is not like this everyday. Mine certainly is not. Best of luck. -- Jreferee (Talk) 22:13, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
This episode has closed and further discussion will not be productive, so can I suggest that we all move on please. Thanks. → AA (talk) — 22:15, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

You are correct. There wasn't a 2007 census but a link to the World Gazetteer (see this link) which only gives the population count though (not the density details). → AA (talk) — 15:04, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Muhammad

His reputation is already mentioned. There is no need to emphasize it, just like we don't emphasize his negative traits. Also "Muhammad delivered Qur'anic verses which permitted the Muslims to fight the Meccans" adds nothing; it is a sly way of saying "Allah told them to attack to it's alright." Otherwise it adds nothing. Almost all of the rest of the edit (which I don't think you've looked at in detail) restores sourced facts that were removed with completely dishonest edit summaries. I will retain "A few weeks after the Battle of Badr, Muhammad expelled Banu Qaynuqa from Medina. He also made mutual-aid alliances with a number of Bedouin tribes to protect his community from attacks from the northern part of Hijaz.[1]" as it is the only addition worth considering. You are also free to read the satanic verses discussion on the talk before taking a stand. Arrow740 16:22, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
