A Wish of War Orphans is the thirtieth episode^[1] of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Zeon armed forces continue their attack as Gaws carpet bomb over Jaburo. Char and his red Z’Gok dive into the river followed by a squadron of Acguy mobile suits.

Inside Jaburo, a pair of officers present the crew with their official military ranks and promotions. The female officer asks to take Katz, Letz and Kikka to the base’s orphanage. The second officer announces that Ryu will be given a posthumous two-rank promotion. Amuro is angry saying that the military does nothing while soldiers are alive and give out ranks when they’re dead. The officer takes a swing at Amuro but he dodges; the flustered officer orders Amuro to stay still while he’s disciplined. Fraw later tells Amuro he shouldn’t step out of line.

Char and his men infiltrate the base through an underwater passage and step out of their mobile suits. The children are taken to the orphanage but don’t get along with the other kids. The kids run away and in their flight walk on top of an Acguy without realizing it.

The infiltrated group soon discover the Federation’s GM factory and plant bombs all over the mobile suits. Katz, Kikka and Letz, who happen to take a rest nearby, see the Zeon soldiers but are captured and tied up. When the Zeon soldiers leave, Kikka takes Letz’s scarf off his mouth, and he starts to bite through Katz’s ropes trying to break free.

Bright, Hayato, Amuro and Kai are ready to make a tour at the GM factory but Bright is called off to a meeting. The children break free from the ropes and begin to take the bombs off the GMs and load them onto a Jeep. Struggling, Letz drives the car out to the caverns and are spotted by Amuro, Kai and Hayato, who happened to drive by.

The cars are driven side by side and Amuro jumps over to the car loaded with the bombs. The children jump to the other car with the aid of Kai. Amuro drives the car towards a cliff and jumps off before the bombs explode.

Driving back, Amuro spots Char and his squadron. The Acguys attack and Amuro gets in the Gundam. Sayla is searching for the kids and runs into Char. She tells him the Casval she knew would never be part of Zeon. Char asks her to quit the Federation. Mirai spots Char and shoots at him. He runs away and Sayla pretends she didn’t see him.

Char tries to escape in his Z’Gok and Amuro goes after him. In the fight he cuts off both of the Z’Goks arms and destroys the four Acguys in the process. Char is awed at the Gundam pilot’s improved skills as he escapes.

Later on, the female officer in charge of the orphanage wants the kids back at the orphanage. Amuro says that White Base is now their home. At a secret senior staff meeting, Bright is ordered that White Base will only engage in decoy operations when they link up with the Tianem Fleet.
