A Wild Ride Through the Night is a novel by the German Author/ Cartoonist Walter Moers. It was written in 2004 and is the story of Gustave Doré, a young boy who goes on a wild adventure in a fight against death. The story was based on 12 engravings by Gustave Doré.
Though the books' publication date is fairly recent (circa 2004), the book itself is exceedingly difficult to obtain, as it is no longer in print. Though Moers' popularity is marginal at best, some of his older works are much more available, thus making this book a rare item indeed.
The story itself is a markedly different setting than his other works, which are based in a mythical land known only as 'Zamonia', which is host to Wolpertings, underground cities where books toil endlessly, a mountain fortress immune to siege which harbours only the finest of artists, and a bear who captains a small vessel in search of adventure.
