Daag is a 1972 Bollywood film produced and directed by Yash Chopra "inspired" by the novel Mayor of Casterbridge. [1].

The film stars Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore, Rakhee, Madan Puri, Kader Khan, Prem Chopra and A.K. Hangal.

The film was made at the height of the Rajesh Khanna craze and became a major hit at the box office.[2] The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal dominated the charts for the year. Film was later remade into the Telugu film Vichitra Jeevitham (1978)
