Pride & Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy is a 2003 independent film adaptation/updating of Jane Austen's novel, set in modern-day Provo, Utah, at Brigham Young University. The characters are Latter-day Saints. The film received largely positive reviews outside Mormon enclaves such as Utah; some of the humor and plot devices derive from and require an understanding of Mormon social and religious mores.

[edit] Religion in the film

Many have disagreed about how much the religious content is emphasized. With some viewers it has been an issue; however, the majority of people (both LDS and not) claim that the religion is extremely downplayed. Most agree that it is one of the least actively religious films of the LDS genre.^{[citation needed]}

The production studio that put out the film thought it was too religious when it was released in theatres. After the film finished its theatrical run, it was modified and several of the more 'overt' references were removed (such as changing 'Sister Bennet' to 'Miss Bennet') to give the movie more mainstream appeal. However, the unmodified theatrical release with all the LDS humor intact can be accessed by going to the second page of the Scene Selection menu, and then from the words "Main Menu," pressing the down arrow three times. This highlights a CTR ring. Press enter and it will play the uncut theatrical version of the film.

Lydia's pug's name is "Austen." A pet pug is also found in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park.
The restaurant that Lizzy meets Darcy in is called "Rosings." In the book, Rosings Park is the home of Darcy's aunt, Lady Catherine, and also the place where Elizabeth turns down Darcy's first proposal.
Lydia and Jack plan to get married in Las Vegas that has a Scottish theme. In the book, Lydia and Wickham must go to Scotland to marry because they can do so more quickly than they could in England (see Gretna Green#Marriage).
