"A Little Piece of Heaven" is a song by American band Avenged Sevenfold from their self-titled album. Unlike many of their other songs, A Little Piece of Heaven consists of very theatrical sounding instruments and lyrics.[1] Lead vocalist, M. Shadows, wanted a song that sounded like Pinkly Smooth (Drummer The Rev and lead guitarist Synyster Gates' side project). Shadows sings the lead male part of the song while the female part is played by Juliette Commagere. The Rev sings the narrative portion.
[edit] Melodies
"A Little Piece of Heaven," is a wildly theatrical piece that incorporates Eastern European melodies and draws some influence from the works of Danny Elfman.[2][1] It features the use of various musical elements from Broadway show tunes, with keyboards, as well as brass and woodwind instruments, mostly taking over Avenged Sevenfold's typical use of guitars. Many fans have said that the song resembles the sound of Mr. Bungle
The video had recently been taken off of YouTube multiple times by Warner Music Group, so only owners of the Avenged Sevenfold MVI have access to the video. On February 12, 2008, the video was released on iTunes and officially released on the band's YouTube page possibly due to the outcry of the video being removed multiple times.
[edit] Subject
The theme of A Little Piece of Heaven is forgiveness. The song is about a man who is madly in love with a woman. He proposes to her, but she rejects him and laughs, so he kills her. He preserves her so he can make love to her corpse, also seeming to "rip her heart out" and "eat it". After a time of this, she comes back from the dead to kill him, ironically murdering him in the same fate he bestowed upon her, after which they share a personal talk as corpses. Gradually, they make up and get married as the undead, and subsequently begin a murderous rampage. In the music video the reason for the murder is different from the song in that he kills her after she turned down his proposal.
