A Good Read

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Good Read is one of BBC Radio 4's longest running programmes where two guests and the main presenter (Sue MacGregor since 2003) choose their favourite book.

Collectively they review the titles. The books are always in-print paperbacks, and the reviews are honest. It is not unusual for a guest to find themselves alone in defending their choice. This is a simple but effective way of getting recommendations for books to read, with publishers keen to have their books featured on the programme.

Over its history the programme has had a range of presenters including Rosie Boycott and Edward Blishen. It is a deceptively hard programme to present as the chairperson needs to read around 30 books over a 12 week period and nearly 100 books for the programme in a year. The programme is produced by BBC Bristol.
