A Fortune in Lies is a song by progressive metal band Dream Theater. It is the first track on the their first album When Dream and Day Unite. It is also featured on the Live at the Marquee CD, the "Another Day" single and the Images and Words: Live in Tokyo VHS and DVD. Lyrics are written by John Petrucci.
The song is about a friend of the band who was arrested for stealing and what he learned from the experience.
