The A class was a class of four minesweepers of the Royal Netherlands Navy. It where the first minesweepers of the Dutch navy that where actually designed as minesweepers earlier minesweepers where tugboat that where turnt in to minesweepers. The A class was based on a German design of minesweepers that was used during the First World War. All ships of the A-class where build between 1928 and 1930 at the Rijkswerf Willemsoord from Den Helder. On 4 August 1930 all ships entert service at the same time. Two days later on 6 August 1930 all four ships left to the Dutch East Indies where they did arrive safely on 30 October 1930 in the harbour of Surabaya.
