A Cosmic Christmas is the first television special produced by the Canadian animation company, Nelvana. It premiered on December 6, 1977 in Canada.
The special focused on three visiting aliens from an unknown planet who wanted to know the true meaning of Christmas. The main character and his goose are constantly being bullied despite his continued complaints to the town sheriff and his family. In the climax of the special the bully falls through thin ice on a lake and starts to drown. The main character attempts to save him but ends up sinking into the freezing water himself. The town, in an attempt to save the two children, bands together. The three aliens, who had been hiding for the first part of the special, join in the rescue attempt as the characters make a human chain to reach the two boys. The rescue effort is successful and the bully is offered the chance to join in Christmas dinner. The aliens realize that family and the spirit of forgiveness are the true meaning of Christmas.
