[edit] Background
The single has garnered national airplay thanks in part to being featured on numerous mixtapes[citation needed]. Hurricane Chris goes so far as saying on his MySpace page, "I bet that its gonna be a baby’s first word because it’s so catchy. It gets stuck in your head the first time you hear it."[1] The voice in the beginning is Baby 3, son of Shreveport, La Rapper 3 Feet. His line is "This Baby 3, everybody say, Ay Bay Bay." Hurricane got the idea of the hook from DJ Hollywood Bay Bay. Whenever he would enter a club, onlookers would shout, "Hey, Bay, Bay."[2]
The song debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 95 in June 2007, [3] rising in the next week to number 85 before jumping sharply to number 24 in its third week on the chart.[4] The single also reached #7 in the "Most Downloaded" on iTunes. The video was #3 on BET's top 100 videos of 2007.
The video for "A Bay Bay" was shot in the Cedar Grove neighborhood, and features local landmarks and crowds singing along to the song.
[edit] Remixes
There are several official remixes, one of which featuring The Game, Lil Boosie, Birdman, Angie Locc, Jadakiss, & E-40. The music video for this remix features all of the previously mentioned artists, except for E-40, but still makes a cameo in there, followed by Pitbull, Lil Jon & Lil Wayne.[5] However, in the extended music video, E-40's verse is presented.
Chingo Bling and Pitbull made their own version entitled, "Aye Wey Wey".
