A86 autoroute
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A86 (or Paris super-périphérique) is the second (incomplete) ring road (U.S.: Beltway) around Paris.
A86 follows an irregular path around Paris with the distance from the city centre (Notre Dame) varying from 8 km to 16 km (5-10 miles).
The ring road is complete with the exception of a 10 km segment (1/8 of ring). A tunnel (only for passenger cars, 2m55 high) is built to complete the loop, with the opening of the first part planned for June 2009, and the last part for 2010. [1]
A86 is a part of the four ring road system surrounding Paris and Ile de France
- Boulevard Périphérique, completed in 1973, roughly an ellipse 9 x 11 km and limits of Paris city
- A86, the last segment (tunnel) to be completed in 2010, irregular, 20 x 25 km (12x16 miles), similar in size with London North Circular and South Circular
- the Francilienne, a partial ring, circa 50 km (30 miles) in diameter, comparable with London M25 motorway
- Grand contournement de Paris (only a few segments are opened)
