A586 road

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The A586 is a road in England that runs from Garstang to Blackpool in Lancashire.

The road runs a total distance of 13 miles, in a roughly east-west direction, and is both urban and rural in character. It begins in Churchtown, just south of Garstang, as a junction on the A6 Preston New Road. It runs as a winding rural single-lane road two miles south-west to St Michael's on Wyre where it crosses the River Wyre. As Garstang Road, it runs west, bypassing Great Eccleston and Little Eccleston, and being joined by the A585 at Singleton, about four miles from St Michael's. This is a wider, straighter stetch of road, some of which is dual carriageway. The road splits from the A585 after a mile, and enters Blackpool as Garstang Road. From here the road becomes progressively more urban. After three and a half miles it crosses the A587 at the St Walburga's Road roundabout and becomes Talbot Road as it passes through Layton. The road continues as Talbot Road past Blackpool North railway station, and passes through the town centre one-way system, eventually terminating at Talbot Square, where it meets the A584 next to the North Pier.
