A US Army Special Forces squad, lead by Major Cliff Marquette (David Morse) is tasked to secure a remote jungle shrine in Vietnam. Amongst other things they find case of prisoner abuse at hands of marines guarding the site, leading to a confrontation between Marquette and the marine in charge, Garris (John C. McGinley). A sudden enemy attack results in almost total casualty for the Americans, and lands Marquette a POW in the hands of a merciless Viet Cong torturer (Roberto Kawata). In the course of his agonizing torture, Marquette is instantly transported to a mundane and unrecognizable life with a loving wife (Caroline Kristiahn) and two children he's never seen before. Even as Marquette struggles to cope with his new reality he finds to his horror, that the war returns to him every midnight, when he is back in Vietnam to relive his torture.
