Huckabee announced his run for the White House on Meet the Press on January 28, 2007.[1]

At the August 11 Iowa Straw Poll, Huckabee took second place with 2,587 votes, roughly 18 percent.[2] Huckabee spent $57.98 per vote in the Straw Poll, which is the lowest among the top three finishers.[3] Huckabee drew attention with an unconventional ad featuring Chuck Norris[4] In a later ad Huckabee wished voters a merry Christmas[5]. Critics accused him of including subliminal massages, which he denied [6].

As of December 20, most major polls show Giuliani and Huckabee in a virtual tie within the margin of error[7], with Huckabee holding the lead in Iowa[8].
