And you are my hero for adding a pic of Harare. I've been kicking myself for not having any photos of ordinary Zim cities – but of course you don't think of taking pics when you live somewhere. Many thanks, and happy editing. JackyR | Talk 19:47, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] JPG versus PNG on commons
There's no easy way to replace a JPG file you've uploaded with a PNG file - easiest way to do it is:
- Upload the new png
- Tag the old jpg as redundant to the png with {{duplicate}}
- Wait for someone to delete it.
Limits on PNGs on commons are due to the thumbnail generation software. Basically the maximum res of PNG it will accept is 12.5 megapixels (i.e. larger than around 3,000 x 4,000). This is because someone quite innocently uploaded a handful of 100 megapixel images, and because of the way it handles image scaling works (unpack the entire image to memory as 24bit image then re-scale) it crashed the image processing server due to the massive amount of ram it needed. [edit] Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site
Hi -- I noticed you added a pic of the Bennington monument to Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site and to List of National Historic Landmarks in New York. Nice pic, and nicely done. :) However, the monument is in Bennington Vermont which is about 10 miles away from the battlefield. Bennington Vermont is very happy to muddy that distinction. However, I am holding out for a picture of the actual battlefield, so I am going to revert back to having no photos. Thanks, anyhow!
By the way, do you, or would you, take pictures of historic sites in the U.S.? If so, your services would be very welcome within WP:NRHP. We have lots a sites needing pictures besides the Bennington battlefield site. doncram (talk) 00:19, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- I wonder, would you be willing to help add pictures to List of U.S. National Historic Landmark ships and shipwrecks. It's a new list-article, and it needs pics for 125 or so ships and shipwrecks, and there exist pics elsewhere for most of them, usually in articles already linked. I would appreciate it if you would select and add pics to illustrate this list. :) doncram (talk) 00:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

- Got your message. Please let's not get into a battle about this, but I really don't think the monument photo is appropriate for an article about the National Historic Landmark site in New York. The photo is very appropriate for the separate article on the monument itself, at Bennington Battle Monument, which is linked from the article on the battlefield. Having no photo is appropriate, and does the right thing by implicitly calling for someone to take a picture of the battlefield, in my view. (Hmm, there was no reqphoto to make the explicit request, so I just added that to the Talk page.) To put a pic of the monument into the battlefield article would be misleading and confusing, in my view. I do appreciate your wish to illustrate the article though, I just wish you would illustrate the List of ships or another article instead. :) doncram (talk) 01:58, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
