Aston Donald McEachin is a Democratic member of the Virginia State Senate, representing the 9th District since 2008. He assumed that by winning the general election for the seat in November, 2007 after defeating State Senator Benjamin Lambert (D, Richmond) for the Democratic nomination for the seat in the June 12 primary. Senator Lambert endorsed Republican Senator George Allen, who was defeated by US Senator Jim Webb in 2006. This cross-party endorsement is largely seen as contributing to Lambert's defeat to McEachin.
Before serving in the state senate, McEachin was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 74th District from 2006 to 2008. The 74th district includes sections of the counties of Henrico, Prince George and Charles City, and parts of the cities of Richmond and Hopewell. He is commonly cited as a close ally of Richmond Mayor and former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder.
In 2001, he ran unsuccessfully against Republican Jerry W. Kilgore for Attorney General of Virginia, losing by 20 percentage points. [1]
