[edit] Biography
[edit] Boxing Background
Jones is a student of boxing. He frequently watches tapes. "Nobody watches more tapes than me," Jones said. "Basically, I watch anyone with great boxing skills and hand speed. I do this because I will be the best boxer in the sport one day, and those guys are among the best to study. Hopefully, by the end of the year I can win a regional title and get myself inside the top 10 or 15."
[edit] Amateur career
Jones started boxing when he was 14 years old, training at the Roy Jones Community Center on the Jones Boxing Team. He ended his amateur career at 22-5.
[edit] Golden Gloves
Jones was awarded for his work when he won the regional Golden Gloves in 2002. In the following year Jones won the sliver gloves in New York City.
[edit] Boxing Style
Inside the ring, Jones can best be described as a slickster. His adopts the "Hitman" stance popularized by Thomas Hearns, his left arm is kept beside his waist and he keeps his right hand at the chest level, leaving his head completely exposed. Consequently, he punches from his hips. Jones moves around the ring well and counter-punches effectively against aggressive opponents. In spite of his lack of power, he is able to land clean shots while his opponents come forward. This resulted in a knockdown against Lovemore N'dou and proved to be a reliable weapon in staving off a tough and motivated career.
