The A2 highway (Croatian: Autocesta A2) is a highway in northern Croatia, in the Zagorje region, connecting Zagreb via Krapina to Macelj and the Slovenian border. It is a toll road, except for the southern end which is part of the Zagreb bypass.
The highway has been under construction since 1997(?), and was officially completed in May 2007. The section Krapina-Macelj was the most expensive Croatian highway to date, at the cost of 12.36 million euros per kilometer, with six tunnels and nine viaducts. One part of that section, 3.75 km (2.33 mi) in length, is still being constructed.
A2 has 6 interchanges and 6 toll plazas. It was built and it is being maintained by a private contractor, Autocesta Zagreb-Macelj. It is a part of the Pan-European corridor Xa.
In Slovenia, it will continue as the A4 highway. Construction of that part of the road is expected by 2011. Upon finishing that highway, A2 will be extended from its current end at the Macelj toll plaza to the Slovenian border.
