[edit] History

In 1909, the State of Texas granted a charter for an independent school district to encompass the campus of Texas A&M University. By 1940, the school had grown to the point that it moved off the university campus, thus marking the birth of the College Station Independent School District. Today, CSISD is one of three public school districts in Brazos County. Around the 1970s, the school was moved to a location further south in town. This move also changed the name of the school from "A&M High School" to "A&M Consolidated High School", after it merged with the black-only Lincoln High School.

By the mid 1990s, the school's campus was showing its age, so it began a large-scale renovation, including asbestos removal, additional parking, exterior resurfacing, a total renovation of the auditorium, and the enclosure of an open-air courtyard, where a library was placed. The renovation was from 1996 to 1998.

[edit] Extracurricular activities

The school has over thirty organizations including community service groups, foreign language clubs, and University Interscholastic League organizations. A&M Consolidated also offers over twenty sports activities for students. Its football team won the 4A state championship in football in 1991.

The school newspaper, The Roar is written by a 20-member staff and has won several awards including the Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The school's Media Tech class writes and produces the school's news channel, KTGR News.
